I saw that coach jaws is up and running already! Kudo's to him! But my question Is this kind of sport specific camp legal? Do all kids get charged? Can camp tshirts be purchased?
What is the purpose other than to scout potential recruits?

I think its a great idea. Kind of along the lines of what Haurbough does! Really they should take their camp idea around the state! Rent out facilities like the BO DOME and really get the seeds planted in other towns that JCA MIGHT. have hit a speed bump but is going to be racing back sooner than expected!

Judging by the pictures this couldn't of been a money maker.

Will be interesting to see how Jake does. He's young with a lot of enthusiasm and passion for JCA. This seems like the type of thing where a seed can be planted. I'm guessing that is the intent. Good luck, Jaws.

JCA and others have been doing all types of "camps" for years for academics, sports, creative arts, etc.

I have seen them for cheerleading and poms. Never for football specifically.

Take it on the road like Harbaugh!
Recruiting isnt illegal! Scholarships are! As far as. I know JCA DOESNT give athletic scholarships!

Only if they offer free tuition, otherwise fair game up to 30 mile radius

Cory is correct!
Does anyone have any evidence of an "athletic" scholarships? I mean if all these catholic schools are "giving scholarships" lets get it out there!

Please no hearsay!
" my neighbor is a superstar baseball player and he is on a full ride to ___!"

I suggest you both read IHSA bylaw 3.070 Recruiting of Athletes.

Here's 1 bullet point

3.071 Recruitment of students or attempted recruitment of students for athletic purposes is prohibited, regardless of their
residence.

Not exactly accurate. Scholarships exclusively for athletics, sure that's not allowed. But private schools must recruit their entire student body and that includes selling prospective students on academics, social aspects, facilities, staff, interaction, community, AND athletics.

In short, Providence would have to be crazy not to be using their three consecutive baseball championship trophies on prominent display and using the baseball program as a key selling point for boys attending their step up days, open houses, etc. Now, they can't offer free rides for baseball players. But in this economy, what private school can really afford to be offering free rides to a large number of kids? Maybe a few, but certainly not the vast majority who struggle just to keep cash flow positive.

All.... It's a difficult problem for many private schools. On average about 30% or so of students attending SHG get some NEED BASED financial assistance. Parents have to submit a financial report that is sent to an independent audit firm out of state. Regardless what some believe it is not based at all on athletic ability.

After the paperwork is reviewed prospective students meeting a set criteria can get assistance. This does not necessary mean a free ride. It's based on true need. Often it's only a certain percentage reduction off of tuition which at SHG is close to eight grand.

It's really a two edged sword for the school. Even for those that are paying 100% tuition for EVERY student that attends the school SHG has to come up with extra cash to cover their cost. Thus the fundraisers and endowment requests.

Even with all the above, attendance at the school has dropped greatly for various reasons. The Cyclones are the smallest school in the CS8 with enrollment still dropping. Ratsy

Correct but you can't go after the recruits without promoting the student and not just the athlete.

The coaches attending feeder programs to recruit players, they are doing this because they want the athletes. The student part is secondary in these cases and that's okay. You have to attend the school to be on the team. Try to prove a coach is
just there to recruit only for the football/basketball player?
