Throw the ball???? Go for it on 4th down???

We have the lead by 15. The FG if made would have made it a 3-possession game. There are less than 7 minutes to go in the game... We need to play defense and let the clock be our friend.

and Ole Miss was putting 9 men in the box. The percentages in that case say to throw and get the first down. Otherwise just go out there in the Victory formation and quit pretending you are a man.

...but to make it a 3-possession game would have been the nail in the coffin.

The first down try was maybe 50% to make but bad things could still happen after that. Also, the screen passes you might be thinking of were done at least two times previously, I think Ole Miss would have sniffed that out.

Very good play calling by MSU. Going for it would have been Orgeronesque.

you have a much better percentage chance of getting 4th down and 1 than kicking a 47 yarder with our kickers. If our kicker was Blair Walsh then yeah, maybe you kick it.

Then after the Broomfield pick we run 2 QB keepers with a worn out, hobbled Relf.

I think Mullen gets a little too conservative at times. I am still pissed at the playcalling at the end of the Arkansas game in regulation. I'm hoping it's personnel related.

Because on that fourth and one, I didn't feel good about going for it. I don't know why, but I just did, and I think maybe Dan had a bad feeling too.

Like you said, the field goal puts us up by three. DePasquale had not missed a FG up until that point as well, and it was within his range.

...and at that moment I had visions of Ed Orgeron making a somewhat similar 4th down call in 2007-- the only difference being that Ole Miss then was not in field goal range.
