The process is usually called laser sintering and it's great, but it has tolerance issues. Most parts made that way require a bunch of further processing, but as it improves, that should decrease. 3d printing is a big issue now but most processes aren't as perfect as they are made out to be.

I'll say it again. A pack of 3D printed diapers at the price of a pack of cigarettes. Poors would be all over that.

You should read the article. I have read many about 3D printing also, but this one talks about how they used metal powders and melted them down in layers.

Also has a video of the the little engine that fired up and ran flawlessly on the first attempt. I don't think they expected that.

You really would have to read the article to appreciate the science involved.

Well, I'm not sure about metal diapers. Seems like it would rather slide than soak. Plus, the sharp edges. Bad idea.
