A true hero. Everyone remembers Apollo 13. But what he, Bill Anders & Frank Borman did on Apollo 8 was incredible. First men to leave Earths orbit & go to the freaking moon.

Those first few groups of test pilots and ultimately astronauts were absolute BADASSES. They were real rockstars.

I met him when I was a kid. Lovell was at Marshall when I was visiting my uncle who worked for NASA. It was a bigger deal to me than any athlete or celebrity I met as a kid. Talking to someone who was on the Apollo missions felt surreal.

I don’t get why these guys get all the love they get since all the moon landings and rocket trips were scripted and filmed in a Warner Brothers studio in Burbank.
