Blows you away, usually you have to wait at least 20 years for one of your stars to have a kid that is capable of playing college ball (I guess football wasnt the only thing JJ started as a kid) and now his brat goes to bama?? It seems like saban cant get enough three star players this year.

and had served in the military so I think futuba is right that JJ was in the 23 -25 age bracket at State.

JJ was born in April '74, so he would've been 24 during the 1998 season. Says he spent a year in the Navy after high school, so he must've graduated high school in '92.

I'll let others do the math.

I think the real problem is getting quality legacies. We've gotten plenty of crap legacies...Joe Iupe.

It's almost like our coaches are afraid to recruit them because they're afraid of being accused of nepotism. I don't understand it.

And as a rule of thumb, we get the least talented of the two.

Larry Campbell vs Jason Campbell
Ben Hansbrough vs Tyler Hansbrough
Micheal Davis vs Deuce McAllister

on TV the other night,

They said he was a cook or something on the John F. Kennedy. Or some other fort, base, or ship named after someone I have heard of before. Or he did something else.

but I will not sit here and let you put down in any way, shape, or form the great Michael Davis. That's just ridiculous. Deuce McAllister can suck my balls.

in fact, I wonder why no one in the NFL took a chance on him. Also, I hate Deuce as much as anyone, but the fact is Deuce was "considered" for the Heisman and he is/was a star for the Saints. That's what I was going off of.

some dumbasses created some bumper stickers and the idiots at the Clarion Ledger take your picture at a podium does not mean you were considered for the Heisman. And his performance in the NFL has no bearing on what he did in college.

Call me a homer if you wish, but I take Davis over Deuce. I don't remember Davis spending as much time injured as Deuce did, despite Davis being a far more physical runner in college.

Micheal Davis vs Deuce McAllister isn't even in the same universe as:
Tee Millons vs Freddie Millons

and I agree with you totally about that and that's why I put "considered" in quotes. What really pissed me off is that some MSU person came up with a Smoot for Heisman bumper sticker and the NCAA made us stop "because he wasn't a legit candidate" or some BS like that. When I heard that, my first thought was "you mean like Deuce?" Glad LT stood up for us there to. Deuce for Heisman has to be one of the more bogus Heisman campaigns in the history of college football.

the year before the Heisman campaign. At that time it was the 7th best total yards per game average in SEC history (more than Bo Jackson's 1985 season). It's still the 9th best. Yes, it was a stretch to promote him for the Heisman, but looking at the numbers it wasn't THAT much of a stretch. He did lead the SEC in total yards the year before. He got hurt an awful lot his senior year so we'll never really know how legit his candidacy could have been (but I concede it still would have been a long shot for him to finish in the top 3 or 4). Also, he had 37 career rushing touchdowns which ranks 9th in SEC history (ahead of Emmitt Smith for one). During his college career he scored by running, catching, throwing, returning a punt, and returning a kick. Frankly, he was a better player than Michael Davis (and Davis was good).

it wasn't. And let's make sure we understand that's all-purpose yards. I'm pretty sure Bo Jackson wasn't fielding kicks and punts.

Deuce didn't even lead the team in rushing his senior season.

I hate having to rehash this stupid argument. Thanks Todd, your dumbass comment got this ball rolling. Around noon today when the Rebels start making their way over to defend Deuce, you can thank yourself.

Later in this recruiting cycle, we will be discussing the fact that Jamont Gordon's little brother, Eric, will be signing with .................

Wait for it! ..........................................

Tennessee. Or maybe Bama. Just definitely not Mississippi State.

For Rebel Bruiser and others who "don't follow recruiting," and for the general board dubmasses, Eric Gordon is a 4 star DB. This thread has nothing to do with basketball or Stans.

We got the Morgans and Threadgill

The one's I remember us not getting are legion (or GoatHolder, whichever you prefer)

Recent one's I remember

Jimmy Webb's twins who played OL at UCLA
Stewart Patridge
Dickerson the TE at LSU
Garrett going to LSU
JJ's kid ,who was always running around on the field after home games.
We will have no shot at Jamoney's lil bro eoither, I bet.

Did Billy Jackson, Johnnie Cooks, Tyrone Keyes, Wayne Harris, Walter Packer, James Jones, Mardye McDoyle, Glen Young, Micheal Haddix, James Williams, Kenny Johnson, Kent Hull, Kenny Jackson, R.J. McKenna,Cedric Corse, Jesse Anderson, Ermon Green,Reggie Stewart, Dave Marler, or even Eddie 17ing Hornback, not one have at least one son worth a crap they could have sent us?

Gerald West, the 5'10 and 170 pound cornerback out of Mobile, has committed to Alabama.

West is a three-star by both recruiting services, and has seen his status depressed a bit by questionable academics. Going into his senior season, West only had a 2.5 core GPA, and had not yet taken the ACT, thus making him an academic question mark. West, however, took the ACT in June and just received his results. He made a 20 on the ACT, and as a result he is now in good academic standing.

Despite the lukewarm reception from the recruiting services due to his academics, the top programs were going hard after West. He's an extremely athletic kid, running a 4.4 in the 40 at a recent combine, and he is technically sound as well. He had offers from just about every SEC school, including Alabama, Auburn, LSU, Florida, South Carolina, Mississippi State, and others. He's a talented athlete who is a big pick-up.

Co-Alonzo Lawrence from last year. How do you not even get a sniff from a kid who's brother (same Mama, allegedly) is your damn starting WR?

You've changed my mind. My post said that it was TOTAL yards. In my mind, receptions and special teams yards count for a lot, since he was scoring TD's off of those. This reminds me of the guy whose user name was "fantisbetterthaneli." I just decided that Dwayne Curtis is a better player than Erik Dampier or Lawrence Roberts. What's that? He was dominated in the stats column by those two guys and they both had pro careers while Dwayne Curtis never will? Well that doesn't matter to me. He's a Rebel and I don't like the guys from State so I'm right. Sports Illustrated and ESPN both called Deuce a candidate, by the way. And like I said, even if he were healthy, it would have been a LONG shot for him to finish highly. Deuce didn't lead the team in rushing because A) he was hurt most of the year and B) Cutcliffe was the only coach in the world who would look at that backfield and think "I've just got to find a way to get Joe Gunn more touches." Against Auburn that year when Deuce was killing them for 3 quarters, he had ONE carry in the fourth. This has turned into an argument over whether Deuce was a Heisman candidate. I meant for it be an argument over whether Michael Davis was better than him.

But he did pull his hamstring pretty bad against Bama in the 3rd from the last game of his SR season and had to be used only on goal line plays vs. Arkansas and Mississippi (and hurt his shoulder on one of those plays) and couldn't play much against Tennessee that year. I'm still pissed at Jackie for the play he got hurt on. We had a double digit lead and the ball with a minute left in the Bama game and he runs JJ on about a 40-yard sweep to set the school single game total yardage record. Then JJ pulls up lame at the end of the play. I still think that play cost us the SEC championship that year. It was even dumber than the Fant QB sneak at the end of the Ark St. (?) game, yet Sherrill rightly still catches hell for that one but pretty much gets a pass for JJ's injury.

Yes he did, despite an injured shoulder (happened during Vandy game) and an injured knee (can't remember which game...).

He led the team in rushing by a WIDE margin.

It was his JR year that Gunn had more yardage.

Was the Heisman campaign credible? No.

Was he the top RB in the state and one of the top in the country? Yes.

FWIW, Kiper had him as his #4 prospect on the "Big Board," and he was taken #23 overall (or was it 21?), I believe.

Yeah, he sucked.
