Many think the JMI deal is new but we’ve been with them since 2015.
Cal had no problem landing top recruiting classes.

I don’t want Cal back. But is it Pope? Is it JMI? Is it both?

I think the biggest issue honestly is that Pope is dragging his feet hiring a GM and we’re falling farther behind.

Pope is a lot like Barnhart. Very slow to make a move.

Are you seriously this dumb? NIL wasn’t a thing then.

the issue isn’t JMI. It’s JMI handling NIL.
NIL started in 2021 and next month is 2026. So NIL was in place at the end of Cal’s tenure here.
His last class had Edwards that was overrated but still the number 1 ranked recruit.
Dillingham that was pure fire.

and Shep but he was a given to wear UK blue.

I have and from what I gather no one can really understand it.

Pope needs to hire a GM to see if they can somehow navigate it.
You didn’t research it or you didn’t understand what you researched. We’ve had ongoing agreements with them before but the new contract handling by jmi started this year. You can even see some of the recruiting guys who have brought it up, even Mitch did.

Well Barnhart is the dense one and Pope is too for saying all is well.
That's what I don't understand if you love the University like you say you do then you out the corruption...... Unless he's afraid he won't get his 5.5 million so now he's going to toe the company line. We all know that Mitch has always been dense and a real ****** athletic director.... I'm just really disappointed in Pope going right along with all the ********.

The deal signed last year put more restrictions on the recruit....the biggest being that the recruit basically has to sign away their nil rights to jmi for an upfront sum. And can't do anything with anyone not associated with jmi without jmi approval, which they won't get and can't use the UK logo/brand without jmi approval, which they won't give. A recruit would be stupid to sign that.

-JMI NIL new this year.
-Barnhart signed 15 year deal extending.
-Anti-trust settlement brought in revenue share and supposedly dialed in NIL with NILGo approving all NIL deals for every school regarding true business purpose and fair value for services provided.
-Legislation not passed which would codify NIL procedures for all schools/athletes.
-Colleges need to sign off on standardized rules for NIL but will not for fear of anti-trust and other litigation.
-Barnhart essentially brought UK collective in house. In essence pushing all NIL deals through JMI review. Outside collectives are not banned at UK per Mitch but reality shows it is a different reality according to some.
-NILGo is being criticized as too slow/restrictive in approval.. NILGo is rejecting a large % of NIL deals by outside collectives as not meeting the business purposes/market value criteria.
-Some schools are allegedly circumventing NILGo as there is no real legislation regarding penalties. Basically still pay for play.
-Barnhart says UK won’t break rules. Rules which have not been codified and approved.
-Agents allege UK/JMI contracts too restrictive to the athletes regarding pursuing NIL deals with outside collectives.
-Agents allege Pope is too much “you should be happy to put on a UK jersey” versus countering offers.

Just my swag at this but it seems to me that the biggest issue at stake with the way the contract is written is in regard to use of our logo...our own little NIL, so to speak. The university has profited greatly from it over the years, maybe more than any school. I also think it's fair to assume that other parties may claim damages if we license others(players) to use it.

Now I'm not defending JMI here but rather, I suspect this was required/requested to be this way on behalf of the school, not JMI. This is just a guess and seems logical to me as to why we apparently insist on this aspect of the contract, if true. I know nothing though and will hang up and listen to the forum. But if this is the case, I can understand how it might complicate matters.

As others have said you clearly didn’t because you couldn’t separate them running UK branding and marketing and the recent NIL deal that was signed this off season. Since then we haven’t signed a single recruit despite being heavy favorites and getting down to just needing a signature on the contract for 2 of them. Also the KSR site article that was recently released goes into great detail of comments made by players and their families.

I’m gonna make you really
mad by asking what restrictions were put on recruits. The contract clearly states players are free to sign 3rd party and private deals without JMI having involvement.

Dozens of people have answered this for you but it doesn't fit your narrative so you jump to another thread and ignore it.

Its about the logo and building a brand and, to a lesser extent, possibly limiting opportunities outside of the collective as a result. We've had crystal balls for multiple top HS recruits disappear at the last second with no explanation.

Something isn't adding up.

You know, it does kind of pinpoint a time during Cal's tenure at UK, where he stopped getting THE top class, and Duke took over. This was right around when Duke landed Tatum and Giles, and ever since, they've kind of been the leader in recruiting. I would bet JMI even made things difficult for a guy like Cal, the timelines sure seem to line up.

That was Nike/Team USA deciding to anoint Duke.

The nil contract wasnt inked until 2025...Google is your friend.

Again, jmi is contracted with a lot of schools, including notre dame and I believe ucla. However, we're the ONLY ones where nil is handled by them.

Love how people have zero information love making points.

-Yes, UK has had a MEDIA agreement with JMI for a long time.

-UK just signed a NEW agreement last year to handle NIL.

2 completely separate points. Just because JMI can handle Media for UK doesn’t mean they can or should handle NIL.

So basic trademark law that has always been in effect. It’s even done at other schools even though you all falsely claim that it isn’t. What Indont accept is the false claims you continuously make.

Dude. That’s when we were paying players under the table. You’re trippin if you think we weren’t. Everybody was for the most part. Cal was just the best at it.
