I like the group of coaches that Montgomery has put together to this point. With the hire of Joe Gillespie, I'm very curious as to how he fits into the grand scheme of things!

I did a search for any player receiving any interest from any college at Stephenville HS. The only one I found was Jarrett Stidham, the quarterback commit that steered President in our direction. Either there is a real sleeper at Linebacker, or there is someone Coach M wants next year, or he feels he is a really good coach thru his interactions with him while at Baylor. (...or maybe he gave Stidham the push to commit to Baylor so President would be enticed to come here, or maybe we're gonna go ahead & steal Stidham too...)

My post was mostly tongue in cheek, but I had forgotten that he started out there. ;0)

Article out there mentions Gillespie was on the Stephenville staff when Briles was HC there and Monty was an assistant.

It looks like they had four All State selections this year including a Soph running back, But I think Coach Gillespie is probably a good coach who will probably be a outstanding recruiter.

A bit early to be second guessing Monty when he hasn't even had a full season yet. Give him a chance. Any first year coach is at a disadvantage the first year. Esp if the talent already on the team is just average to start with.

Briles but yes still true. I can find a video of game from the 90s where Briles and Montgomery are on the sidelines. Monty was young back then.

Go to 9:42 to see a young Coach Monty. This video will also show you an offense's roots that is common in college football now but was not 16 years ago. It has also spread across HS football since.

I am so impressed with both our basketball and football coaching staff, I don't believe we've ever been this equally blessed with great staffs in both sports at the same time. If we can keep our staff's intact long enough, I am certain that we will beat that TU mantra of a great football team and a crappy basketball team, and vice versa.

GMoney - Not to take away from the current staffs but the overlap from 1980-1984 was pretty hard to beat. 2 HOF head coaches (Cooper and Richardson) and staff that went on to HC jobs (Marmie, Coker, Edgar, Stoglin, etc..) and many other assistants that have had great success in the college and pro ranks for years.

I forgot that Cooper & Richardson overlapped, that was a long time ago. Heck I was a freshman in HS in '84. Thanks for reminding me. Realizing that, I would say we have come very close to matching the conjunction of those fantastic staffs.
