but he would get my vote and I wish we had more senators and congressmen like him. His attitude should be adopted by more folks on both sides of the aisle. I just watched an interview with him on Fox. He said something very telling at the end of the piece. He said he'd met with the president more times since election day than he did the previous six years with the former one......but I guess if you're trying to destroy the coal industry that state's senator probably won't be your golf buddy.....watch the piece and make your own conclusion

He would also get my vote. I believe that Joe is the closest thing to a Statesman that WV has ever presented to the Government. He is native of the State, not imported by others who came to "buy in to the State. I'm sure he has faults but still . . .

One thing is for certain with Trump when compared to Obama. Obama was not an executive... not a "leader" type... and it's telling how much Trump is meeting with people, industry leaders, etc., as opposed to how Obama did.

Manchin has always said he's gotten better response out of the Republicans (aside from McConnel) than he ever has out of his own party.

I've heard him speak in person 3 times, I think. He came to a small business boondoggle I went to on each of those occasions. Each time he made roughly the same statement "we need to stop acting like Democrats and Republicans and realize we are Americans first".

It was a stark contrast to McKinley who's entire speech was partisan politics.

So, he earned some respect from me for that ... but all of this stuff with his daughter, wife, and the Epi Pen pretty much eroded whatever positive thoughts I had developed about him.

He is as crooked as all of the other politicians WV has ever had. He flip flops on positions. He was elected as a Democrat but does not represent Democratic values at all. His daughter (that's all I have to say about that, no need to say more, you all know exactly what I'm talking about). He has vilified Bernie and most of Manchin's constituents love Bernie. He was the ONLY Democratic Senator to vote for Sessions. He also voted for Pruitt, which the vote occurred on a Friday and the following Tuesday they were to release a bunch of his e-mails by court order. His future doesn't look so bright as a Democrat. Wouldn't surprise me at all for him to flip to Republican.

Sessions should have sailed through.

Democrats are highlighting their hypocrisy and are creating bad precedents.

I think Sessions and DeVos were the 2 noms they should have fought.

I'll add Pruitt. I don't have too big of a problem with the rest. When a guy holds a public office and doesn't comply with FOIAs for two years, there is a problem. They should have waited another four days before confirming him, when those e-mails were released.

What are democratic principles that you speak of? Taking what doesn't belong to you and giving it to people who don't deserve it? That's robbery. Manchin is trying to protect his state and if he really wants to help AMERICA, he should change to the party that believes in the American values, the GOP. Bernie is a socialist and nothing is free. REAL democrats expect to pay for what they receive, not steal it.

Major worry would be that Joe is playing the political field. Make it look like he is a player for West Virginians (and Americans in general) while he is running for office and then reverts to being a left wing socialist after securing the position for another term. Clearly asking; Can he be trusted, or is his just another of the lying Dem politicians that have been so prominent for the past 8 years? will not the Dem establishment reign him in once the election is final?

He should just switch parties. The liberal dems do not believe in what he says he believes in. He's being dishonest to continue being a democrat. Unless, he believes like Sanders.

Yes, we are all for stealing from the rich and giving to the poor. We are for confiscating everyone's guns and only allowing speech that we agree with. We are for making it legal to eat small babies.

There was a time when Manchin's views today WERE the Democratic Party. Harry Truman and, when I first moved to GA, Zell Miller. Zell has switched to the GOP as there is no longer a centrist/moderate Dem view. That's the Dems I grew up with in WV in the 50s and 60s, not this Berne ****.

I remember Zell Miller. My Parents were "Kennedy Democrats" Georgia used to have people like Sam Nunn leading our Defense appropriation budgets. Scoop Jackson. The Democrats of today would hound these Patriots out of Office.

Yes they would and all good men who I believe did put America first and not their party. That's how the Dems lost me when these guys became expendible to the party.

Speaking of Kennedy, my grandfather was politically active in Morgantown when I was a little kid. Election day in 1960 he asks me to get on my bike and take a package to Mr. So and so down the block. So I ride my 16 inch bike with the basket on the handlebars down the block and give Mr. So and so the brown paper bag.

I come back and he asks me to do it again to another guy on the next block. By the third time I looked in the bag, Canadian whiskey! I was unknowingly helping JFK get elected in WV!

My Mom was among the original "Peace Corps" volunteers Kennedy set up in the 60's. I remember going with her down to the shelters to help feed the needy and hand out surplus clothing that was donated. That was my first introduction as a little shaver to true Democrat compassion. Kennedy was a tax cutter and believed in a strong Defense. He would not recognize today's radical Leftist Democrat party.

Sounds like we grew up with many of the same basic values. We were taught that you should help those less fortunate to help them get on their feet, not keep them on their a$$.

What happened to that?

I think you are missing the difference between the Democrats of yesteryear with Dems of today. IMO, you had strong democrats who believed in the party and their platform.

Today's Democrats believe in the party and sit back while a few of the older- more seniority - Dems run the party. All they want is to support the leaders of the party. They are satisfied with committee assignments and toe the line to keep those assignments so they can bring home the beacon. Manchin may be willing to step out and expose himself as a leader, but his reward very well will be the loss of his preferred committee assignments. He already has an hell of a handicap at home in following Byrd, the king of pork.

I don't like small ones...I'd rather wait till they get a little meat on them first...make that a party platform and I'll switch

Not many in WV. I'll pick on Ds as well as Rs. Plenty of corruption in WV.
its always been there. I remember watching out my friends window in 1976 when the democrats were bringing bus loads of folks to vote and then buying them a bag of groceries on the way home.......I also remember Arch Moore:cop:
