Joel Hicks, legendary former head football coach of the Pulaski County Cougars and member of the Virginia High School League Sports Hall of Fame, passed away Saturday morning.

Coach Hicks was the kind of coach that could take his players and whip you real good and take your players and beat his players if someone else was coaching them. He took a very average team in 88 and 89 with zero D1 players and beat a Bethel of Hampton team 2 straight years who had 8 D1 players the same two years. I could name many more examples.
