Quite impressive by Votto. He is a HOF'er. Would just be incredible if the Reds could add a bullpen and send him off like he deserves with a WCS.

Perhaps in the older day Joey would be on the fence... but due to analytics and the importance of On Base % Votto is now a LOCK and if he keeps up this pace this year and the next that will even further submit his legacy.

Should have been 2X MVP. The Stanton MVP...think it was 2017 complete trash decision.

IMO that was the best year of Votto's career...

He is a second half player for sure.

2016- was batting .252 at all star break. Batted over .400 second half with 15 HR and 55 RBI...107 hits in 72 games. Crazy, raised his average by 74pts in second half and finished .326.

Martinez also played over 1,400 games at DH, which is a massive strike against him. Votto on the other hand is a great defensive player, with a Gold Glove and a career .993 fielding %.

Votto's got 17 instances of black ink, which is low for a Hall of Famer, but seven of those marks are in OPB. And he's got 148 instances of grey ink, which is slightly over average for a Hall of Famer. His WAR's a little low for a Hall of Famer, but I think that the Hall voters will take into consideration how bad the rest of his team was during his career (his .936 OPS is 34th all-time, so on a better team he'd have a lot more RBI) and vote him in before his eligibility expires.

I've never seen the "black ink or grey link" lay out do you have a link for that

Side note I've always been under the impression that if Votto wanted to hit 30+ homeruns every year he could of. I think early on his career he was comfortable taking the walk. These last couple years where he has been more aggressive proves my point IMO.

Black ink:

The essential point is to measure how often a player led the league in a variety of "important" stats. This method penalizes more recent players, because they have 14-16 teams per league, while the older players had just 8. To get a point you must lead the league in that category.

Votto has 17 instances of Black and 148 instances of Grey, but seven of his instances of Black are in OPB and two are in OPS, and he's cracked 1.000 in OPS four times. To compare, Willie Mays and Hank Aaron only cracked 1.000 in OPS five times each.

He's not even an average fielder imo so that play was by far the best defensive play I've ever seen him make. I watch nearly every game until foosball season starts in September.

Love Votto the hitter but I completely disagree on the fielding.

This is a great reference point as well.


Votto is surround by HOF'ers statistically at his position. He will 100% be in Cooperstown.

Best guess is he finishes right around Top 10 all time WAR for first basemen. He also lost the better part of two prime seasons to injury and had the COVID year.

I think Votto is the type of player who could play into mid '40s. Very fit, still has great bat speed and a heady player. Baseball seems to be pretty much everything to him.

I have to admit thought Votto was past his prime. But man, hes the only Reds player to ever hit a homer in 6 consecutive games. I mean, they have had some great HOFers. Just amazing feat. Good on you Joey.
Hope this team can get into the playoffs and get healthy.

Votto is at least 3 years from hanging it up, maybe 5 or 6 years away.

He’ll likely have over 400 HR’s by retirement, absent bad injury, the most by a Red, passing Bench and Perez.

He’ll sail into the HOF.

Reds spent a lot of money on a guy who only had over 90 RBIs 4 times...in a pathetic hitter friendly park. He hasn't even reached 2000 hits yet at 37 and you guys are talking Hall of Fame?

But he walked a lot...so there you go. I hoped y'all enjoyed those walks.
