Some highlights:

1. Team is working very hard. He said everybody has bought into the new system. "We are very hard on the players. Sometimes, you can put up with somebody for two months. When the first year is over, we will know how many players really want to belong."

2. Coach Polk and Cohen talk "almost every day." He said he really counts on Coach Polk and his expertise. "Coach Polk would obviously like to do some things over." However, Cohen said, "We will do a lot of things the same way. We will also do a lot of things differently."

3. The team is scrimmaging five days a week "The 20-hour a week rule really hurts. I promised to not talk about rules, but sometimes, you have to. That rule makes it very hard but we will find a way."

4. Pitching staff is looking very good. Cohen said night and day improvement for Ricky Bowen and he expects a big year out of him. Also, Forrest Moore has had a great fall and is also swinging the bat well. He could wind up a dual-position player.

5. Our approach will be to be very agreessive and to move runners over. Last year's team was very good, just injured. So no reason that we can't hit the ground running this year.

6. The goal is to win the national championship and we will start trying to do that in February.

Players will quit but its fine. Cohen is about to reload the whole ballclub with talent. I feel very confident in baseball seeing what Cohen has said so far about his approach and the ongoing action in fall practice. I'm very excited about baseball again.

You can compete in year one at a new program?

Nonsense. Everyone knows it takes... you know...3 years, and then you'll look like you're turning the corner - but don't be fooled, it'll take at least 3 more years after that to compete... for a bowl game. again.

our roster will really get an injection of better players. Look at the roster and look at how much dead weight there is in the senior class. Its basically Hogue.

Bunting......hmmmm.......uhhh.......sorry, you lost me, awalkerdog.

Oh, wait....you mean that little thingy that you do with the bat that EVERY OTHER FREAKIN' TEAM IN THE WORLD does with runners on the bases? Gotcha.

Is he helping with the team? Does he plan on trying to get back into baseball in the pros?

He is helping with the team on hitting and it looks like he is done with pro ball. I am glad to have, he was a good player for State.

Actually, we were only 8 sac. bunts away from being 3rd in the SEC last year. But, when you consider that would have put us at 40 and compare that to UK's 75, we didn't do ****. Hell, nobody in the SEC but UK really did it last year. USC was in 2nd place way the hell back at 50.

I'm all for Cohen's style of sac. bunts, hit and runs...etc. Whenever you get the infield defense moving and cause them to make quick decisions and quick throws, it definitely gives you a better chance of something good happening rather than what we're used to (a routine grounder to short with a runner planted firmly on 1st base).

Not sure how much he likes on his degree, I am told he comes by ever now and then. It would be nice, like Todd said, if he was like a VA on the team.

I believe you coach baseball on personnel and the situation.

If you have a bunch of Clark's and Palmeiro's, you've got to let them drive in runs and not give up an out by bunting.

If you have a bunch of Mark Goforth's that can fly, you've got to play small ball and try to put pressure on the other team's defense.

My point is I wonder if Cohen coached that way because he had a lot of Goforth's.
