John Cohen interview

A couple of things I took away from the Cohen interview was first about recruiting. It's harder to recruit at State than most people believe even after a runnerup at the cws. Especially in baseball people have always thought you could just pick and choose who you wanted. Like Cohen said State is a rural school that doesn't appeal to everybody. Especially today when you have so many good baseball programs in the south.

The other was facilities. I think Cohen was diplomatic but is frustrated with our stadium compared to what is going on in the rest of the sec. When you bring up your rival Ole Miss and how nice their stadium is after spending 20 million dollars and Alabamas 30 million they're spending on a new facility I think he is probably not happy at our out of date structure. But Scott Stricklan is going on a listening tour. So everything will be just great.

kids at that age, and anyone for that matter want to be in nice surroundings. Do you want to stay in a roadway inn or a 5 star resort when on vacation? Our coaches have a good reputation for their coaching ability and they are good recruiters. That also goes a long way with baseball players and their families, so a lack of top notch facilities can be overcome to a certain extent, but why not have it all? The more you can give to a recruit, the harder it is for them to turn you down.

Are you REALLY upset about the fact that our AD is actually listening to the fans? Dude, they are planning to update the facilities! Why on earth would you be mad about Stricklin talking to the fans? You represent why our fanbase is beyond fixable. You must be one of those idiots who thinks that things happen overnight.

And BTW, Cohen is not frustrated in any way with his situation at MSU.

Strickland is "listening" because he's too afraid to make a decision on his own. Hell, imagine if Mullen loses the next two games. IMO, that would be the end of his tenure as head coach and I would promote one of the assistants to finish out the year and have Hudspeth ready to come in the day after the Egg Bowl. Scott wouldn't have the balls to do that. He would have to "consult" with LT to see what he thinks and then go from there i.e. Rick Ray.

You fire a coach in the middle of the season who has led you to 3 straight bowl games?

Do you really think that Strickland consults with LT or did so when he hired Rick Ray? If so, I'd like to know the basis for that belief.

You'd want to stay with him???

Are you seriously saying that if we lost the next two games, you wouldn't pull a Kiffen and dump his ***?
What direction would we be headed in if we kept him? He would be looking at a distinct possibility of a 2-10 record.
Mullen has his hands full in these next two games.

Yes he did consult with LT and with Howell. Don't ask me my source, but he did it. Why would we hire Ray when everything was laid out for Kenny Payne.

Don't get me wrong, I like Scott. I think he would be better suited for fundraising for capital projects.

I can tell you this, though. I know personally that he's incapable of making a decision on his own.

You were on here ranting about how things don't change and laughing at me because you claimed I thought I could change the world. Pick a side and stick with it.

Yep, and Kenny Payne is still the #3 assistant at Kentucky, standing outside the huddles. Let us know when he actually does something to deserve a look as a head coach at MSU.

Ok, I will let you know. In the meantime, let's hope TSUN doesn't fire the cab driver killa and hire him. Let's see how the board reacts then.
We, on the other hand, will continue to be giving it the ole college try with our 8 scholarship players and walk-ons because LT, SS, and Brackey know best.

Didn't we see Calipari in town a few weeks back visiting a certain HS player with MSU connections?? Hmmmgh, wonder which coach was with him.

Exactly, I still don't know exactly what we have with Ray but I'm not losing sleep every night worrying about the fact we missed out on Kenny Payne. Payne deserted MS out of HS to play his college ball out of state and I don't really know what credentials he has to be a HC other than his connections to WWW. I certainly don't see any other programs beating Payne's door down.

I'm not too worried if UM does or doesn't hire him. And I doubt whether Calipari did or didn't take him to visit Malik makes any difference either.

Assuming that we are going to lose the next two games is pretty what defines Miss Stake I suppose. But yes, if we lose to Bowling Green and Kentucky, we probably can discuss going in another direction. But damn, son, what are the chances. I'd say it's more like a 90% chance we win both of them. Mullen has never lost to Kentucky, it's at home, and we're better than them.
