Does anyone know if he is more of a Bulldog orRebel fan? He seems to mention "Ole Miss" somehow or another in almost all his novels but never State. Wonder who he goes for in the Egg Bowl? I know him and Dickie Scruggsare good friends but I remember a Mississippi State commercial that had Grisham on it. Confusing. </p>

or any preference he has for football. But, he loves the hell out of some MSU baseball. He has written about that on numerous occasions.

think he spends most of his time here in Virginia; has a home near Charlottesville but still has one near Oxford also. There was some 'issues' with neighbors a few years ago in Miss'ippi that pre-dated his move to VA.

A friend also indicated that he has donatied to local little league and to University of Virginia baseball teams.

"Eight summers ago, the thought that Virginia’s baseball program would be arriving in Oxford to prepare for an NCAA Super Regional was laughable.

As Virginia searched for a way to restructure its non-revenue producing sports in 2001, its unsuccessful baseball program was among those being considered for a downgrade to non-scholarship status, essentially eliminating the program. Supporters – including one well-known Mississippian – rallied, and the program remained.

A year later, a new stadium opened.

A year after that, Brian O’Connor was hired away from Notre Dame, where he was an assistant, to become the team’s head coach. His teams quickly flourished. Playing in front of record crowds at Davenport Field, the Cavaliers have played in six straight NCAA regionals and will make their first Super Regional appearance when they play Ole Miss on Friday in the first game of the best-of-three series.

“Prior to 2001, our baseball attendance was basically family and friends and a few die-hards,” Virginia athletic director Craig Littlepage said. “(O’Connor), and the staff and the team – based on the performance – have turned Charlottesville into a baseball town.”

Reportedly, none of that would have been possible without the assistance of Charlottesville resident and best-selling novelist John Grisham.

Yes, that John Grisham, who has degrees from both Mississippi State and Ole Miss and keeps a home in Mississippi.

Littlepage described Grisham as a “good friend” to the entire Virginia athletic department, saying he’s been a suiteholder for football games at Scott Stadium and has had courtside seats at the new John Paul Jones Arena.

“John was instrumental in rallying the support to save the program,” O’Connor said. “Getting everybody involved, and just raising Virginia baseball up. I am, and our program is, forever grateful for his involvement.”

In a 2004 story in The Washington Post, Grisham was described as “the program’s greatest benefactor.”

“There is lots of speculation out there that Mr. Grisham has had much to do with that stadium,” Dennis Womack, who preceded O’Connor as coach, told The Post in 2004. “I would say that the building of that stadium has been the single most influential thing, the best thing, that’s happened in the history of UVA baseball.”

In a profile of the program last month, The Chronicle of Higher Education said that Grisham “reportedly played white knight” and gave part of the $5 million the university needed to build Davenport Field.

Grisham, whose son Ty played on the UVA team for 2 1/2 years, is on vacation and wasn’t available to be reached for comment."

Something about his son wanting to play here but Polk didn't give him a scholly so his won went to UVA. And he donated a bunch of money to their baseball program, new facilities and what not. Not sure how much of this is true or rumor. Sucks to think if Polk had given him a scholarship we could have gotten all that new stuff.<div>
</div><div>If he does not mention MSU a lot, this could be one reason. I would be bitter if this happened to me. Even if the kid was no good, he is one of our most famous alumni's sons. Let him ride the pine and make his dad happy.</div>

model of Dudy Noble stadium in his back yard in Oxford. Go figure...
I think you just amde that up.

I would imagine that Goat hit the nail on the head. I doubt he gets into OM/MSU pissing matches.

However, this field you speak of is to the east side and in front of his house. You can see it right off Hwy 6 on the way to Oxford.

And it's just a nice little league field. It's not a replica of anything

or something similar. Not that it was a replica, but it did say something about Dudy Noble.

and it was McMahon not Polk. Although it might as well have been Polk seeing as how McMahon was Polk's hand-picked successor.

Is everything a pissing contest with Ole Miss? Jesus... you define "the little brother syndrome". Do you actually like MSU or hate TSUN more?

probably talk about Ole Miss more because they are about the law and he went to lawschool in Oxford. He built his house on hwy six and the guy that owned the land next door wanted him to buy that too. He said no, so the guy sold to a manufactured home company. That may be why he built another in Va.

I'm not 100% sure Grisham even owns it anymore, though. I think his trips down this way are pretty rare now. Virginia man. Grisham was always a big MSU baseball fan but also a big college baseball fan, period. When he was still living in Mississippi he was at Ole Miss games all the time. I'm sure he rooted for MSU when the two played but I really do think the guy just loves college baseball and was happy to root for us what with proximity and being a law school grad.

I listen to a lot of books on tape and I listened to John Grisham's "Bleachers" a few years back and really enjoyed it because Jack Cristil does the voice-over for all the live football action.
