@DinwiddieProud this is what you were referring to the other day! I had Beach brains and thought you meant he was an assistant at JMU lol! Very very good move! Hopefully he can make Marshall a contender! He has a very tall task! I'm hearing TJ is going to be good this upcoming year. It would be nice to see 2 Richmond public school teams have a successful year.

@HighestPoint great point! Gonna be a tough climb though. If those teams can finish at 5-5 in the Richmond area against all of those other 5A-6A schools with no resources and an aging school with low enrollment numbers for Jr's and Sr's that is equivalent to winning a state title. I hope they crush it!

I agree with everyone. Sims will have their attention. Now he needs to keep it. It takes a special personality to get through to kids from an inner city environment. To get them to buy in, they have to relate, and be convinced.

Coach Sims is young enough, and has been around the horn enough, to have relevant experiences that the kids should listen to him..., at least at first. His challenge will be to keep them coming back after the stars in their eyes fade.

TJ took a giant step in the right direction with their schedule changes. I've made no secret of my opinion, that continuing with many of these lopsided matchups, (because of the requirements for district play), are just WRONG. What purpose is served by mandating that a team with a zero chance of even being competitive, play a team because it's in their District? Really?

The VHSL membership needs to step up and take a real serious look at their district play rules for football.

TJ has big changes to their schedule. This is what Max Preps has...

Hats off to the AD. When is the last time a City School won 8 games in a season? Looking at the schedule, if the chips fall the right way, TJ could do that this season. If they do well and attendance rises, I'd bet the other city schools will follow.

Goochland and Essex are good additions. Though smaller in class, both are perennial contenders in 2A and 1A respectively and fans usually travel pretty well. Even if they don't get to 8 wins, they should win enough to get a home playoff game. Good Luck Vikings, rooting for you up here in the 'Ville.
