but I'm not surprised at all that Kentucky got their player cleared. I certainly won't be shocked if MSU isn't quite as lucky...

Wall cleared

Pay back seven hundred odd dollars. Sit the exhibition and opener.

Hmmm ....

The Lexington Paper is pretty good about finding any skeletons tucked in the back of the closet. And they don't really care who they dig the dirt up on. They were the ones who brought UK basketball down in the late 80's. A bunch of people are still boycotting them because of that one, even though though they essentially brought an end to the Sutton era. Which really turned out to be a good thing. Just this year they've uncovered improper spending at the Lexington Airport Authority, The Kentucky Association of Counties, and the Kentucky League of Cities. If someone didn't dot their I's and cross their T's leaving John Wall's amateur status in question, they will find it. And if they do, I would expect the story to break about the time UK hoists the Final Four banner Wall could very possibly lead them to. Meaning Cal could hit a very unusual trifecta. I've said all along that some big time player would eventually be the target of an investigation that would lead to the exposure of how dirty the AAU system really is. And it will probably topple a big time program in the process. I'm beginning to think that its going to take an organization like the Herald Leader to devote the time and resources to do it.

As much as anyone here, I'd love to see Sidney cleared to play, but I realize his situation is different from Wall. Wall's issues were fairly minor and his case was handled in the typical NCAA fashion. Sidney's history in California and all the documentation involving Vaccaro, shoe companies, dad's "job", living expenses, etc., makes his status more complex and more fishy. His lawyer refusing to fully cooperate with the NCAA adds another layer as well. All very different than Wall's case. If Sidney gets to play, that sets a precedent of "anything goes" for getting qualified to play college basketball. I bleed maroon, but I see that. I'd be stunned if he gets cleared, but would love to see it happen....
