At the end of the day the allure of the SEC was too much for defensive end Johnathan Harris (Boynton Beach, Fla./Boynton Beach) to overcome.
The 6-foot-5, 225-pound pass rusher committed to Mississippi State on Friday, choosing the Bulldogs over Boston College and UCF.

"[John] wanted to play in the SEC from the get go," said his father Sam Harris. "And we have some family in the area as well.

"Plus coach [Dan] Mullen and his staff did a great job of making him feel wanted and feel at home there."

Harris also had offers from Wisconsin, Kansas State, Illinois, West Virginia and a host of others despite not having the senior campaign he may have envisioned.

"John has been struggling with turf toe for much of the season," Boynton Beach coach Rick Swain said. "He still has around 17 sacks this season but I know he's a little better than what he's shown.

"Mississippi State is very excited to land him, I can tell you that."

Swain knows what it takes to play in the SEC and believes that Harris has all the tools as long as he continues to build on his weight and his strength.

"John is a beast in the weight room but he's still going to have to get bigger," Swain said. "The coaches at Mississippi State want him around 255-260 pounds and he's definitely got the frame to get there quickly.

"But they are getting a top-notch player. He's started at this program since he was a freshman and he has great upside because of his intelligence. As long as he concentrates on getting stronger and getting his weight up I expect big things."

Harris will graduate early and enroll at Mississippi State in January to get an early start with a program that will more than likely need his talents on the field immediately.

"They are planning on putting him out on the field as early as they can," Sam Harris said. "So we're going to drop him off on Jan. 2 and let them get to work."

Has good height...will need to add some weight though. Glad to hear that he is enrolling in January as that will give him 9 months before the season starts to put on some weight in case we need him, but sure hope we can afford to RS him.

Also, he has a decent list of offers from BCS schools which is still so refreshing even going into Mullen's 3rd class.

Also, thought it was kind of funny that he has 17 sacks this year.
