Locke's blog has some quotes. In the middle of it, he throws Polk under the bus without saying so much.

And no, Im not linking it.

SEC programs deserve to have coaches with some modicum of professionalism. These are good quotes though:

• On Arkansas LHP Randall Fant: “I thought he’s an average SEC freshman left-hander who really picked up a lot of momentum when we took horrible swings.” What kind of dickwad would make such a statement?

• On getting just four hits: “It’s going to have to get better in a hurry, because the league doesn’t give a crap whether we can discern between balls and strikes.”
I'll tell you who -- someone who knows everydamnthing.

• On holding himself responsible for his team’s failures: “When I was a child, I would watch a TV show every Sunday where a guy said, ‘If we lose, it’s my fault.’ That was Paul Bryant. I’m not a Paul Bryant, but that’s what I’m going to do.”
And a narcissist to boot.

“I’m embarrassed. Not by our players, I’m embarrassed by where our
program is right now,” [Cohen] said. “There are others who should be
embarrassed as well. I’m not going to list them. That’s where we are.
I’m a proud alumni, this isn’t where our program needs to be. I know
where it’s going to be, but I’ve been here before.”

That's gonna leave a mark.

The two darkest days in MSU baseball history were the day Polk unretired in 1993 and the day he was rehired in 2001.

is he is referring to Polk (likely) or LT.

He probably is referring to Polk, but he really should be refering to LT.

when we rehired Polk back in 2001, I told my friends that it set MSU baseball back 10 years. We are now in year nine.

I will say this:

I am shocked at how bad the facilities are. I am shocked that Polk let it get that bad. I don't know that it's necessarily all on him because he may very well have told LT- "hey we need a new drainage system" and LT gave him the runaround. But at the same time, LT gave Polk most everything that he wanted. It's definately between one of those two.

They both played a role in our demise. LT, however, was the spark plug by bringing him back a second time. Knowing we could have had Mainieri makes me even more mad every time I see the guy coaching at LSU

A lot of blank stares and "Are you kidding me?"s. It really is amazing how we completely destroyed what was once one of the top 10 or so baseball programs in the country.

...except for the fact that it could not even try.

Did you add commentary or did you grab that from a upig board (if they have those)?

"His batteries are re-charged!" I was thinking- for what? NCAA bashing? I tried to keep an open mind about it. But I knew Polk to well. I just couldn't see him going from wanting to quit all together and leave completely to five years later "Hey! Let's win a National Championship!" and mean it.

You are absolutely correct about the destroying part. I just hope that we can get back to that level, because that's what we have to do first to take that next step to get to winning a championship.

The only way Polk II would have worked is if he had a great recruiter that he would let go outside of his camp and recruit as well as a great pitching and hitting coach. Those were our ingredients for success in the 80's with Shoop and McMahon.

As I listened to the games this weekend, I became furious as I thought about what has gotten us here. A coach sitting in his office writing letters and not recruiting. Then when his letter writing/bitching campaign resulted in no attention from anyone. He throws his hands up and leaves everyone at Mississippi State holding the bag. He did not prove a thing to the NCAA. He just left Mississippi State baseball in the toliet. Good job Polk! State baseball is now the least competitive program on campus. But hey, it is the NCAA's fault.

He slapped us in the face and punched us in the stomach.
