Youre right. I've always been an advocate for the public league and it stinks to see Phillips lose. Good for Johnsburg.
But herscher is still better because they had more yards on Philips than johnsburg had on Manteno.... Or whatever
Glad I went, really exciting game. The wind was brutal. After half time tried the visitors side and you needed goggles. Johnsburg could not run the ball, but you have to hand it to their D for keeping them in the game. Many mistakes on both sides, penalties turnover, but like I said the wind, wow. Fun game to watch.
Agreed Eagles. Never seemed to play with that swagger from what I watched tonight. Lots of talent just not the confidence that went with it.
Sounds like a bunch of Hillary supporters here. Johnsburg won, but, but, but. Give the kids their day and let them enjoy the trip to state.

Sure I did. Phillips was their own worst enemy, they weren't nearly as good as last year, the drive from Chicago must have been tough, get ready to be running clocked. I guess I was reading another thread.

No, you read this one. The nuance of the conversation referred to the "consensus of some" that Philips could not be beaten with the proof being the devastating WHOOPING they put on Althoff last year in the finals. With so little available game tape of Phillips and the mystique grew. We heard claims of second teamers playing last week.
Having watched Canton and Mater Dei, Althoff and Rochester and now Phillips and Johnsburg - and many here have - some things just became obvious about the talent gap, mostly because of the letdown that was Phillips.
That drive did have to suck, you must admit.
Ok just got back from Johnsburg. What an atmosphere. From what I was getting from Johnsburg faithful this is their one shot for a state trophy. My goodness their defense earned it tonight. What a performance in the 2nd half since Johnsburg has negative yards. When they won the game I felt the entire town would storm the field. Phillips was not sharp at all and I do not think they're as talented as last year. Phillips bus was late and I feel that didn't help. Take absolutely nothing from Johnsburg though as they battled all night long and prevailed.
Agree for the most part sloppy play for the Wildcats and a good team takes advantage....and that's exactly what Johnsburg did.

I stand by my comment, Herscher is better than Johnsburg.. but congrats to them, they earned it.. see what happens against Rochester , though I will be pulling for the Rockets..
Yah we will make a trophy just for Herscher. In the fine print we will say yah you weren't good enough to get here but here's a trophy anyway.
I said nothing about deserving to be playing as we got beat by a team that was better that night, they avoided making the mistakes they made last night.. All I have said is that we are better than another team, that happens endlessly on this board and now all of a sudden it bothers you??
Let's look at facts - you lost at home to a team that played without arguably one of their best plays.
Johnsburg played the same team on their home field with that best player in uniform. Gave up more yards but.....last time I researched this kinda thing, gave up fewer points. Which, in the end, is all that matters.
Your theories about how Manteno did this hadn't how many yards per play did that mean nothing. You're whining that Herscher is better also means nothing.
You had a chance to prove it and failed. Your team was not good enough. Phillips was better that night Johnsburg was better last night. Now they will play for a state title - not some mythical calculation that you wanna use to somehow make yourself feel better.
Deal with it. We won't ever know if Herscher was better because they weren't good enough to get to where Johnsburg is.
My sensibilities aren't offended - my amazement at you somehow wanting spin this into a positive for Herscher just makes me laugh.
Johnsburg lost their best linebacker the 2nd week of the season. Last night they lost their 2nd best linebacker on the 1st play from scrimmage. Their 3rd string linebacker? I think I remember someone talking about how an injury to their linebacker hurt their team. And as for special teams, Johnsburg dominated in a way that can't be put on the stat line. How did HHS not take advantage of some of the worst special teams play I have ever seen??????????
Yep, points is what matters.. but if you want to translate that into they are a better team then you are clueless.. like we said we will never know.. all we do know is that Phillips chose last night to play like crap and shot themselves in the foot endless amounts of time and Johnsburg benefits
As far them missing perhaps their best player, we were too and our kid plays both sides of the ball.. so whats your point??

Special teams wasnt really a factor in our game..think their was 3 punts and 2 XP attempts all night.. no kickoff return made it past the 50..
I am really not sure what point of this you are missing.. thats all fine and good, at no point did I say they don't deserve to be playing next week.. (the game is Friday, not Saturday like you said)... but that does not mean they are better than anyone they didnt play.. they gained about 100 yards, the football gods were on their side last night..
