Johnsburg win that game or did Phillips lose it??? Outgain a team 475-120 and lose it??

I stand by my comment, Herscher is better than Johnsburg.. but congrats to them, they earned it.. see what happens against Rochester , though I will be pulling for the Rockets..
what a ignorant thing to say. You really highlight the kind of smallness that can exist. Johnsburg WON, they WON in a single elimination tournament that means they DESERVE to be in the finals. Where is Herscher? Herscher is at home next weekend watching, enough said.

Yeah, they deserve to be there because of how that game played out.. they have had a great season.. they better gain more than 110 yards on Friday because Rochester wont make the same mistakes..

Let's look at facts - you lost at home to a team that played without arguably one of their best plays.

Johnsburg played the same team on their home field with that best player in uniform. Gave up more yards but.....last time I researched this kinda thing, gave up fewer points. Which, in the end, is all that matters.

Your theories about how Manteno did this hadn't how many yards per play did that mean nothing. You're whining that Herscher is better also means nothing.

You had a chance to prove it and failed. Your team was not good enough. Phillips was better that night Johnsburg was better last night. Now they will play for a state title - not some mythical calculation that you wanna use to somehow make yourself feel better.

Deal with it. We won't ever know if Herscher was better because they weren't good enough to get to where Johnsburg is.

My sensibilities aren't offended - my amazement at you somehow wanting spin this into a positive for Herscher just makes me laugh.
My only regret is that I can only "like" this post a single time on this board. perfectly said.

But but but......but the final score was 23-20. I imagine most of the day yesterday you were crafting all kinds of responses based on a Phillips win. And when your narrative took a dump, you had to scramble to "well my team was better Bobby Brady win a trophy day" kinda stuff.

You can try to diminish what Johnsburg has accomplished but those kids on that roster can't here you. They met the football gods last night and they were wearing blue and gold.

Your team wasn't good enough to get to this point. Their team was swallow the bitter pill, pull up your man paanties and move on.

Whatever, I think you said Johsnburg was going to get blown out by Phillips too. Lets see what happens next weekend when the kids actually play a real, not mythical made up, game. Haven't thought about Johnsburg since we played them in 1985, now I am watching them and cheering them on next weekend. Good job.

Put the ball on the ground 8 times, over 100 yards penalties not going to beat a team much less blow them out..

And what you seemingly fail to recognize is a good team which Johnsburg clearly is will take advantage off those things. I'd like to think if Phillips put the ball on the ground a few more times against Herscher the very same thing could've been possible?

To quote you clearly and concisely, But.....

Where did I EVER say they werent a good team??? I have referred to them as a top 5 teams.. said the 5 best 4A teams were Rochester, Althoff, Phillips, Herscher and Johnsburg and then a decent gap to number 6..

And that top 5 team is still playing, but.....

Only one not giving a team credit is you.. thats fine too, Herscher was a top 5 team this year and return a ton.. I am sure Phillips will bring in some transfers, its a good bet that 4A North in 2017 will come down to Phillips and Herscher..

and yet on another board you have hersh finishing 4th in their own division.

I give credit to Johnsburg plenty. I don't pick arbitrary stats to try and build up some faux case to say my team which lost in the quarters is better than a team that is unbeaten and playing for a state title.

But hey that's your narrative and I'm sure the HHS supporters can grab on to that if it helps them prep for the 2017 season.

Agree for the most part sloppy play for the Wildcats and a good team takes advantage....and that's exactly what Johnsburg did.
The Johnsburg kicks into the endzone in Q1 really seemed to contribute to their good start and when the game went into OT, one could sense the ability of Johnsburg to kick a FG would factor into the final decision. I will be anxious to see if the Comcast replay can verify some of the Q4 holding calls on Phillips flagged by the linesman working the home side. Great game, atmosphere and class shown by both teams.

What I was most curious about in OT a was the play calling from Phillips.

They clearly were able to run the ball on Johnsburg, yet in OT they threw it 3 times.

As a defensive minded coach I wait for offensive coaches to get bored and start dipping into other playbook pages. Don't wanna take anything away from what they hAve accomplished but at some point you gotta dance with the girl that brung ya.

It seemed like Phillips may have overestimated how much room their receivers might have to be open down deep in that red zone area. The cushion and space available to their passing game earlier in the game away from the red zone was just not there in OT.

This is an all time classic line.

What I was saying is that just because Johnsburg won that game last night doesnt mean they would have beat Herscher.. If Phillips puts the ball on the ground 8 times and had over 100 yards in penalties last weekend, last night Johnsburg travels to Herscher

Do you realize that you alone have created an atmosphere in which the entire state hates Hersher?

I mean, I'd never hire an HHS grad and risk they they may share any DNA with you.

Last weekend Phillips balked at playing on Friday because of travel... but were ok with it last night, not sure why.. but seems possible that it really affected the kids as they arrived 20 minutes before game time..

Why they didn't leave at 1PM is beyond me. Traveling NW at 3PM on a Friday was crazy.

Phillips plays an "unconventional" game to say the least. First possession of the game and they go for it on fourth down on their own 29, and score a TD. Decline a roughing the kicker and accept the play, a ten yard punt. (Unless I'm missing something) Their D is suffocating, it looked like they play all 11 up on the line of scrimmage or close to it. Offense is explosive but obviouslt the fumbles and penalties cost them. Give Johnsburg credit, their D impressed me, and they did what they had to to win. I liked the two vintage cars revving their engines too. :)

One of their coaches was shocked it only took them 1:10 to get to our place..probably looked at map and saw about same distance..

Better driving south on i57, then head into that cluster**** of the tristate during a friday rush hour, plus its not like johnsburg is off an interstate exit.
