He’s won 3 of the last 5 MVPs and finished 2nd the other 2 times. And one of those he didn’t win simply because he isn’t some voters preferred ethnicity (Embiid year).

If they can find a way to get past OKC and win a second ring he’s gonna be in some very exclusive company.
He is an incredible player and so far has been the best player in this world this decade.
...but him finishing 2nd in the 22-23 season is not because he is white and 'some voters' prefer black people.
F17S. This shit needs to be called the 17 out instead of accepted and ignored.

- Jokic was the clear MVP in 20-21 with Embiid a distant 2nd in voting, and Jokic's basic as well as advanced numbers support the MVP.
- Jokic was the clear MVP in 21-22 with Embiid a distant but closer 2nd in voting, and Embiid's basic as well as advanced numbers support the slightly closer voting.
- Embiid was voted MVP in 22-23 because he dominated the regular season(which is what the MVP is for) and was better than Jokic in some basic and advanced numbers, and closed the gap in other basic and advanced numbers.
- Jokic was back to being the clear MVP in 23-24 with SGA a distant 2nd in voting, but really quite competitive in basic and advanced numbers.
- SGA was the clear MVP in 24-25 in voting with Jokic finishing a competitive 2nd, and both were competitive in basic and advanced numbers.

You look at these 5 years and say 'voters dislike Jokic's skin color which is why Embiid won!'.
I look at these 5 years and say 'Jokic is clearly the best player of this decade. And it looks like voters continue to not support the idea of 3peat MVPs'.

There hasnt been a 3peat MVP since Bird won 3 in a row in the mid-80s. 40 years man.
It may be unfair, but its a clear longstanding reality, whether collectively intentional or not.
Embiid winning that year isnt because he is black. Jokic not winning that year is not because he is white. Claiming it is due to skin color is lame as 17.

- Magic won 3 in 4 years with Jordan breaking up the 3peat.
- Jordan won 3 in 5 years with Magic breaking up the 3peat.
- Jordan won 2 in 3 years with Malone breaking up the 3peat. Look at that Malone year- voting was super close and Jordan even had many better basic and advanced stats.
- Malone won 2 in 3 years with Jordan breaking up the 3peat. Look at that Jordan year- voting was super close and Malone even had many better basic and advanced stats.
- Duncan won 2 in a row.
- Nash won 2 in a row.
- LeBron won 4 of 5 and Rose broke that up, despite LeBron having better basic and advanced metrics.

Cool story. I remember the campaign against him. It was based almost exclusively on the fact he’s European, which is a dog whistle (something I’m sure you’re familiar with) for white. The clips are available online. This isn’t an argument. You’re wrong. To quote Walter from the Big Lebowski, “you’re out of your element.”

It was a talking point across ESPN and NBA podcasts. I get that it’s a dumb assertion but it was out there and talked about by multiple people.

Totally get that it was out there and talked about.

There was also talk of a pizza joint holding children in the basement of the building and sexually abusing them while practicing Satanic rituals and harvesting adrenochrome from the children's bodies.
...but the restaurant didnt even have a basement, much less all the insane shit that was claimed.

Baseless divisive claims that can be easily refuted with stats and historical context should be addressed instead of ignored. Ignoring them is how they continue to exist and even slowly spread over time.

100 sportswriters and broadcasters voted for Jokic to win in 20-21.
100 sportswriters and broadcasters voted for Jokic to win in 21-22.
100 sportswriters and broadcasters apparently dislike that Jokic is white(European) so they voted for a black player in 22-23.
100 sportswriters and broadcasters go right back and voted for Jokic to win in 23-24.

^ make you claim make sense.
Are you claiming the 100 sportswriters suddenly found out he is from Europe after they voted for him and he won the prior 2 MVP awards?
Are you claiming the 100 sportswriters disliked Jokic for the prior 2 seasons and the season after Embiid won, but they still voted for him despite not liking that he is white(Euro)?

He has received a crazy amount of 1st place votes this decade, despite voters disliking his ethnicity.
There hasnt been a 3x MVP in 40 years, but Embiid won 'simply because' he is black. Ok then.**

What a ridiculous comparison.
Both claims are easily refuted. Both claims fall apart with even a basic amount of info.

My comparison is directly applicable. Just because an idea exists and is debated, doesnt mean the idea makes sense.
If my initial reference is too triggering, then substitute it for Flat Earth claims.

The only person triggered in this conversation is you. POTUS made one assertion you didn’t like so you went on a tirade that has ruined this thread. Congrats asśhole.

Here's Kendrick Perkins laying the groundwork to vote against Jokic for MVP because of white guilt. This was a major talking point all of this season.

LINK

Here's Gilbert Arenas & Shannon Sharpe saying Jokic is the worst MVP in 40 years. Arenas is on the record saying the NBA changed the rules so that European players would have it easier.

LINK

All of this is easily google-able. Only someone with brain worms would say otherwise, hence @mstateglfr

Perkins, Arenas, and Sharpe...do you really place value in what they say each day? Like, really?
Again- just because someone says something, doesnt mean there is any validity to it.

Congrats on having the same view as those guys, I guess.

I'm not gonna respond after this, but I just wanted to point out what is obvious to everyone but you. I say something. You say that's ridiculous. I show evidence that what I said is indeed true. Instead of saying, "Oh, well now that a claim has been verified by facts, I change my stance," you instead say, "Are you really going to give examples of the very thing you said was happening?"

Classic. Absolutely classic. Siri, show me willful ignorance.

I think it’s possible for multiple things to be true at the same time. Maybe Embiid legitimately deserved the MVP, and won it. And also, at the same time, maybe a handful of voters who otherwise would have voted for Jokic were affected by the public discord, and decided to vote for Embiid instead. Doesn’t have to be either / or.

I do disagree with any assertion that Embiid ONLY won it because of some affirmative action campaign. His stats indicated that he clearly deserved it.

Voters don't like 3peat MVPs and voter fatigue is real. That's the only reason the best player on the planet didn't win the MVP 3 times in a row - not because the writers are racist against black guys and didn't want MJ to have that.

Oh and I guess the same is true for Jokic not getting it. But I concede that probably in the dead internet era of social media where echo chambers exist to enrage everyone - it probably made you think that racism was the case.

It wasn't. Here in the real world - this was just a case of folks being fatigued.

(See how easy it is to make this assertion and not go full pizzagate?)

I was very aware that the claim was made a few years ago. It was dumb and baseless then and it is dumb and baseless now.
Just because others claimed it a few years ago doesnt mean your claim is verified by facts. It just means some people with a really dumb view have a microphone.

I didnt say or suggest that you are the only person to hold this dumb viewpoint.
