Just a question. So is this a football board or is it an anything that relates to a private school board?

I did see JCA entered 5 kids in the regional wrestling tournament.
None advanced to the sectional.

Well I mean kind of, but not really as it relates to this season. I was aware of the connection before the thread.
I for one would LOVE to have a discussion of BOTH JCA and Naz hoops. I really want to know more about this JCA team.

The Hill beat Aurora Christian 62-59 @ AC earlier this year. It went to overtime - great game! JCA was just a little better all night. Big turnaround from the previous year. Good looking team. I had the opportunity to chat up the coach after the game and was really impressed with his humility and grace. Very nice man. I imagine he works really well with the boys and they respond to him.

Also really impressed with their standout player on the perimeter. Forgot his name. Very curious to know where he ends up playing college ball. Good luck JCA down the stretch.

Head coach is Joe Gura. He is an outstanding leader, teacher and representative of the school. Really a great guy. The player you are referring to is Jalen Jackson. Nice player. As far as I know he has not committed anywhere . Will probably end up at D2 or NAIA. A little undersized, but he is a scorer. Led the conference in scoring as a Junior and is averaging around 18 pts a game this year. JC improved to 17-4 with a win on Tuesday. Big game at Marist tonight.

JCA should win its sectional but the road ends in the super against Morgan Park. Nazareth has a very tough sectional with St Joe's and Fenwick. Doubt they get out of that sectional either.

Nazareth won't win the regional play in game. Fenwick should beat Joe's again, Rakocevic is an xfactor but our guard/wing play which has been the St Joe's calling card for so long is no where near Fenwick this year.

Since this is a basketball thread, I caught the H-F / JT West game last night. H-F can play some hoops too. Very entertaining game. Wisconsin-bound Kendric Pryor starts for H-F. As good of an athlete as he is....his athleticism did not stand out last night. That's not a criticism of Pryor, though. West and H-F are loaded with athletes. H-F can make some noise this year, but the Bloom sectional is loaded (Simeon, Marian, Thornton etc.). West is a year away. All their top players are underclassmen.

Jalen Jackson named ESCC player of the year. Pretty sure JC has never had an ESCC player of the year in hoops. Finish regular season at 21-5.

With the possible exception of Morgan Park, I don't see anyone in the state staying within 15 points of Althoff during the post season. The early rounds will generate 100 point outbursts with six guys in double digits and 50-point margins of winning.

Are there any good 3A teams in that area? No.

Will they win state, probably. But I think Morgan Park will give them a heck of a game if they meet. Don't count out St. Joes, or Fenwick either...

They beat Centralia - 3A state ranked. They beat Edwardsville - 4A state ranked. Played the STL powerhouses - lost only to nationally ranked Chaminade in a game they led at half. Cold shooting and Jason Tatum (Duke bound and likely one-and-done) tipped that balance.

They WHOOPED Kenwood. I'd put their schedule against the CPS.

You might be going a little to far in terms of schedule but I agree Althoff is good. Without a true big man I don't see the extreme confidence but, I don't 100% disagree with it either. Althoff has only played Chaminade and Centralia with a very early game against an average E'ville team. I am struggling to see where all the confidence is coming from within their current schedule. I get it being an Althoff fan but, I don't see the impressive wins on the schedule. Kenwood is the only win I see worth talking about.

Anytime you can go to Centralia and leave with a win, it's a good win. They are state ranked. Edwardsville lost to Centralia too. Althoff beat STL U High, walked through the SW Conference teams they played and the Chic Fil A tourney against out of area teams. They had Chaminade on the ropes - and I wish they had a chance to rematch.

The extreme confidence comes from withing these kids play - this is a special group of players.

NOW THIS IS A FLYER (pun intended) ... what are the odds that the Tilmon kid gets homesick and wants to play with Goodwin, Colden, Bateman and Edwyn Brown next season? He can transfer legally I think, as he is coming from out of state.

I saw the Chaminade game a little differently but they did have a respectable game. SLU, B East and B West were pretty awful this year so I wouldn't brag on those too much. Typically I would argue against the powers up North but, this is a pretty down year for the area. Tillman leaving put a big dent in the Basketball world.

Speaking on your other question, yes he is very home sick however if he did return he would come back to E Side simply because he miss his friends. On the other hand, he is playing with kids that can really play which is more equivalent to college ball. So far the move have been great for him. The strike had a big effect on him leaving and Basketball in Southern Illinois.

SLUH is awful? C'mon man! West sucked - but East is pretty good. Not a title contender, but no slouch. I'd put Althoff's schedule against the CPS.

Depend on which team in the CPS. Both Morgan Park and Simeon schedules are better. SLUH lost to Desmet and St. Charles West so it's hard for me to give them the nod. East lost to ESide twice and I don't think E Side is anywhere close to good right now. Hopefully they can get some magic with hosting a regional tournament for the first time in ages so we will see. When you make comments like East is pretty good, you are being a homer which hurt the claim. Like I said Althoff is playing some exciting basketball and are fun to watch. However, after watching this sport for a long time, playoffs is a completely different animal and winning state is no where near as easy as people make it out to be. Nobody expected Normal community to upset Simeon last year. Althoff not having a big man may play a role at some point. We will see. I hope I am wrong as Southern Illinois need a champion in my opinion.

Maybe I should have clarified. I wouldn't be bragging on 100 point nights in a regional game in 3A down there, I don't even know who they would play.

Are they a very good team, yes. Top 2-3 in the state regardless of class on a given night, yes. Could they be the best team in the entire state, yes. Did they knock the snot out of Kenwood, yes.

But lets not talk about how great basketball is the metro area now, that isn't much of a schedule. IMO, I do want to see them win to quiet the Chicago crowd and have people realize they play basketball south of I-80 since the Peoria schools have somewhat regressed from years past.

In 2A basketball, Aurora Christian defeated Immaculate Conception 65-48 Friday night to win the Regional. 1st game of the Sectional is AC vs. Bishop Mac. When I hear these three schools I immediately think of quality Class 3A football, but the basketball is fun, too!
