Former Utah Republican Governor Jon Huntsman has accepted President Donald Trump's offer to be ambassador to Russia, an administration official said on Wednesday.

The job, which requires Senate confirmation, would put Huntsman in Moscow at a time when U.S.-Russian ties have sunk to a post-Cold War low.

Huntsman served as ambassador to China under Democratic President Barack Obama before launching an unsuccessful bid for the 2012 Republican presidential nomination.

Trump has said he wants to improve relations with Russian President Vladimir Putin, which deteriorated under Obama over issues including Russia's annexation of Ukraine's Crimea and the two countries' backing of opposing sides in the Syrian civil war.

The tensions peaked in December when Obama expelled 35 Russian suspected spies after U.S. intelligence agencies concluded that Russia hacked and leaked Democratic emails during the 2016 election campaign as part of an effort to tilt the vote in Trump's favor. The Kremlin has denied the allegations.

This will drive the libs absolutely crazy. How can you criticize him when he was appointed by Obama as our Chinese ambassador.

From people that cite Breitbart and The Blaze.

Only one stupid laughing man emoji? Maybe your confidence in your snark this time is low because you know I don't "cite" those? Step up your game fuktardian.

I like Huntsman. I honestly wish he would have run for president. He's a smart, level-headed guy. I'm glad he accepted the position.

You included all the reasons why he would never run for President.

I think he did seek the nomination in 2012. He didn't do well, but that partly because accepting Obama's offer to be ambassador to China was used to label him as some sort of liberal.

He is a founding member of the no labels group, and I think Manchin is also a member. I keep hoping that movement picks up some steam.

He had no base. He is Romney with even more money. I, personally, think that no labels goes no where. You need a dedicated, energized core group of supporters. No labels doesn't attract those kinds of fervent, true believer supporters. The middle of the road politicians are becoming more rare, not more prevalent.

I'm sure he is a good man, a good executive. Level headed. But as one political observer once observed, when you are in the middle of the road, you are just road kill.

From 2012. Shows that Trump is quite astute since the Russian Ambassador will endure excruciating scrutiny from the media and the Dems/Libs. Perfect choice.
Yes, perfect. I often select candidates to fill important positions that I have no confidence in.

The issue is not whether Huntsman can do the job, it's that Trump lambasted the guy every chance he got during a previous campaign over his previous ambassadorship.

Your just upset because he's a guy that the libs and the corrupt media can't pick on. After all, a president can change his mind, can't he? If Obama did this it would be called growth.

I'm not upset at all. I'm only pointing out Trump's hypocrisy.

Why did you put the word cite in quotations? Did you think it was spelled incorrectly?

No. Sorry sugartits, but I think grammar and spelling nazis are just sad little people who need a little win in their life. I get my wins away from the internet.
