**** pisses me off.

Here you have someone that already lives a good life and is going to go to college for free anyway and eats up a football scholarship.

Meanwhile, you have walkon Emmanuel Gatling, a 17ing chemical engineering major, not getting a free ride and still giving his time to play football when he is in one of the most demanding majors on campus.

McKenzie is double majoring in engineering and a second curriculum. He knew that his future wasn't football, and he quit to focus on school.

so why eat up the scholarship for two years? Maybe its perceived or real pressure from dad, I don't know.

From my source who was there when McKenzie came up to the football office to tell Mullen and Wilson he was quitting, the real reason isn't academics. Jonathan was apparently getting yelled at a lot by the coaches during practice, which is obviously typical for any player, but when Duncan, his dad, found out about it he got mad and told Jonathan that he didn't want him playing for such disrespectful coaches. It sounds retarded, but I know Duncan and this doesn't really surprise me. I'm sure academics had a role, as well, because Duncan has always expected perfect grades, but it wasn't the main reason. Take it for what it's worth.

Maybe he decided to focus on academics and that's the real reason but to me it just doesn't add up.

From multiple reports, the guy was a beast on the scout team last year and then fought hard enough in Spring and Fall to earn a starting spot week 1. His PT has slipped since then, but if his heart wasn't in it, I don't understand why you'd bust your *** for a year and a half and then quit 3 games into a season where you're earning PT as a RSF?

You would have think he would have been going about 70% or something. Maybe he's just a good guy that if he's out there will give it all he's got regardless.

I still think that massive hit in the AU game he took may have made him think about his priorities a little more and various other reports say that he wasn't even sure he wanted to play football out of HS. Who knows.

But regardelss this was a guy that was expected to be a 1-2nd string for the next 3 years as well that's now gone and we'll have to replace him.

Did Duncan McKenzie, who played football at MSU, really expect football coaches to not yell? Doesn't that kind of come along with the territory? Yelling is just kind of part of it. I can't believe that Bob Tyler didn't yell at his players. And honestly if- and this is really big if- our coaches didn't yell at our players, no wonder we've been so ******.

But I just don't buy that.

Is it possible he didn't want to play? I mean, think about it for a minute here. You're this guy whose Dad played football at MSU. You're 6'6" 275 pounds or so. You're really not into football all that much, but you're kind of expected to play because of your Dad and your size. Very similar to every kid that is 6'9" and taller is automatically on the basketball team no matter if they want to be or not and regardless of whether they can play or not. Sure enough on God given talent, you dominate and MSU gives you a scholarship, even though you are still not really into football. So now, here you are at a D-I SEC school. You're having to get up at the crack of dawn everyday, having to practice and etc. when you want to do your thing, and you still really aren't all that into it. So, at some point you get miserable to the point where it's just not worth it anymore, so you finally do what you want to do and leave.
