Chris Jones, Fletcher Cox, Jeffery Simmons, Preston Smith, Montez Sweat, Pernell McPhee, Denico Autry, Darius Slay, Jonathan Abrams, KJ Wright, Bernardrick McKinney, Elgin Jenkins, Gabe Jackson, Dak Prescott… who am I missing?

Remember when the knock on Mullen was that he couldn’t recruit?

JT Gray and Logan Cooke are both special teams pro bowlers

Johnathan Banks and Chris White played several seasons.

Mullen was the best recruiter we’ve ever had. And it’s not close.

People can talk trash about Mullen but he made our program legitimate. He saw raw talent and developed it into pro athletes. That is the kind of coach MSU needed. There are a lot of Pro starters that had MSU as their biggest college offer.

I don’t know how well he would have done at State in this NIL/transfer fiasco we have now. Simmons, Prescott, Cox, Jones, McKinney, etc would have been snatched away before their Junior season.

Didn’t show up in the Pros, but Bear (RIP) ans Robinson were a solid WR/ RB combo. I’ll always wonder what that ‘15 season could have been if those guys would have returned.
Don’t forget Jamar Chaney on your list

Nevermind. Chaney was a Croom recruit.

Man, what if we could have had them all on the same team. We would have driven back ever Saban offense back past the endzone of Bryant Denny and in to the Tombigbee.

Easily. And he had a good eye for the guys that weren’t on everybody’s radar.
I was just about to post this earlier but I’m going to give Lebby more than one year or a few before I start to freak out. I feel with the right players he’s bringing in he can turn us around.. just depends do we have the patience. Guess we’ll see based on the improvement this year and the third year will be key if we make strides this year.

The difference is that now, I don't think Mullen could have been successful in the same way. Dak is on LSU after his sophomore year in this environment. Lots of those guys end up on other teams because as Cam Newton said, "The money is just too much."

This is one of many reasons why I hate the "new college football." Mediocre coaches will succeed only due to their roster. While this was always the case, it is even more so now.

Mullen is going to SLAY it at UNLV. Their NIL pool will be bigger than ours. The money that school has from the Hospitality Department is off-the-charts big.

Actually, I think Chaney was basically put with us by UGA's coach. Couldn't get in to UGA at the last second and was guided our way. Not sure if that's because we were one of the few teams with spots open by the time he found out, or if Mississippi was the only place he could get in somehow, or if we were just viewed as a non-threatening place that would get him the SEC but not let him hurt them down the road.

Yep Correct Chaney was because Mark Richt contacted croom about him, very talented some problems at first getting into UGA or something like that I do know he contacted Croom directly through. It’s like I’d forgotten this for a moment. Man oh man have so many things changed in the Junior NFL aka College Football. Jogged my memory. Plz excuse me I didn’t have time to read this threat past this I replied to

Mullen might not have been a good “recruiter” but he was savant at evaluating and projecting. His worst classes ranking wise still had 4-5 guys drafted each. Dude knew how to scout
Agree, But I would contend that evaluating and projecting is by far the most important part of recruiting. If you're not recruiting the right players, none of the rest even matters.

A buddy of mine was telling me he saw a clip I think maybe on SportsCenter where they were going around to different teams and asking their predictions on the Ohio St/ND championship game and they did the Chiefs. They came around to Chris Jones and he replied “I ain’t rootin for nobody….Hail State.”

This clip has to exist still. The athletic department needs to have it, and run it at the big 3 sports where they like to also update scores of other games.
