Ash started for WSU in their first game Tuesday night against D-II Central State U. Played 19 minutes with 5 points on 2-5 shooting, 4 assists, 3 boards and 3 turnovers.
Great that he is healthy and contributing. Hope he has a great season.

Sounds like he and Brown were what we thought they were, not Big Ten caliber starters. Makes me wonder if Collins failed to develop them or if their recruiting rankings were bloated. Then that makes me wonder about Nance and Kopp and it doesn’t leave me in a good place.

isn’t this when gcg points out our coaches pay no mind to outside rankings and do their own evaluations?

What are you talking about? Brown has 18 right now in the second half against the Illini and he looks very much like he belongs. Also that GCU team is pretty talented. Should make some noise in the WAC.

Did you know that GCU just lost to a Division II team before this? A Division II team that is transitioning from NAIA?

To put things in perspective, though, two of their top players were ruled ineligible before the game but are expected to return for conference play.

I didn’t know that. Regardless they looked like they can play and the atmosphere was the opposite of Welsh Ryan. Also Brown played well on both sides of the ball.

It's not difficult for guys playing on mid major teams to get more shots (and points) when they're the best player on the team instead of one of four different scorers on a Big Ten team... Look at Rapolas Ivanauskas. He wouldn't have had that scoring average night in and night out in the Big Ten... even on our horrible, horrible team.

But I will say that our team is so damn bad that we could have used Brown, Bensen, Rap, and Ash. Some of the guys we are paying scholarships for, like Greer, Gaines, Turner, Young... I'm not sure they're better than the guys who left.
