If we have even a slimmer of a chance of slowing Lamar down, Jordan Jones must be spying him for basically the whole game. Anyone else agree?
I agree that's part of the solution. Would like to see us go with a smaller/faster lineup as well. More snaps for JD Harmon, Marcus Mcwilson, Eli Brown and less for C. Love, A. Bell, Pringle etc.

Would Louisville hurt us with the power run game if we went with a front 7 of Ware/Miggins/Middleton/Allen and Jones/Mcwilson/E. Brown?

Last game of the year...time to pull out all of the stops!!!!

won't work. Jackson can run away from Jones or most any other linebacker. Need to contain and force everything inside. Bring a DB up inside to spy on selective downs.

I don't think any one spy is the best option. The way to beat louisville is ball control and time of possession. Keep him off the field as much as possible. The defensive game plan should be to scheme multiple defenders to contain him and make him and his receivers beat us actually throwing the ball. They are fully capable of doing it. But I think we stand a better chance defending a drop back passer than a running/scrambling QB.

If Jackson get the edge, it's going to be a long afternoon. I'm sure Coach Stoops and the other coaches know this. It will be interesting how they defense Jackson. I don't think he can beat us with his arm, but he sure can with his feet. We must control the clock with our RB's, to have any chance of an upset.

The coaches will have a good plan in place. Problem is lack of discipline on d. Tenn game is a perfect example. This team has to quit blowing assignments make Louisville drive the field and hope for some turnovers

I'm sure a DB would be used here or there, but most teams use a linebacker to do the spying. Think its obvious Jones should have that responsibility. Hes probably the only linebacker who would have a chance at slowing Lamar down. Having our best defender guarding their best offensive threat is the smart thing to do IMO. Its no guarantee Jones would slow him down, but it would be worth trying.

i think to stop not just Lamar but Louisville's entire offense we have seen the plan. What worries me is the plan is the exact opposite of what Stoops does. The teams that have really bottled up Lamar(if you can even say that) have gotten pressure non stop and played man up in the secondary. UL's O-Line is garbage and their run game is nothing to write home about outside of Lamar obviously so you have to gamble on Lamar beating you with his arm while under pressure. That's the only way, and Stoops hates doing that he likes to rush 4 and play sit back in a zone probably 70 or 80 percent of the time and if we do that Lamar will pick our defense apart with both his arm and legs.

Well those teams using LBs to spy him made him the leading Heisman candidate, the reason is because it didn't work. Houston used a DB who he couldn't accelerate away from on his cut. Which seemed to work the best? If Jones is able to accelerate like a DB it might work, if he can't you will see Jackson make his cut and pull away, like he has done almost every game. That isn't taking away from Jones who is excellent, but physically he can't match Jackson's abilty to accelerate out of his cuts. But whoever spies him, they have to be sure tacklers.

I'd do Mike Edwards personally before I'd do Jordan to spy him when it's applicable. I have a feeling McWilson will play a bunch, if we can stop Radcliff on the run (I don't see this happening either), as an extra safety to play on Jackson.

In the end, there are no good matchups for UK in this game given how bad out front 7 is right now. Maybe Ware and Allen can have a plus game off the edge against shakey UL tackles...but it's not a great chance IMO.
