This is the kind of stuff that concerns me about this staff. Why the hell would you let a true frosh, or anybody, demand playing time and then grant his wishes? Why would you let players decide what road uniforms to wear? What else has this staff delegated to the teams wishes instead of drawing a line in the sand and expecting everybody to fall in line?
I'm at a different level, much lower at high school, but our uniforms were purchased by the previous coach to mimic the Huskers. Red top, white pants and vice versa. This year we went red on red and white on white because the captains and seniors wanted to. Why did I let them decide? Like I tell them, I'm the steward of the program, but this year, this is their team. Am I going to let them call plays or decide when the bus leaves? No. Something inconsequential like our uniform pairings...if they have an opinion, they can absolutely choose.
I get the tradition argument, and for the Huskers I think you should only go white on white on the road occasionally because of the tradition.
Here's what confuses me. We ask these players to take ownership of the team, to patrol it like Wistrom and Peter did in the late '90's and get all of their peers walking the same line by whatever means necessary. We call for a revival of the Unity Council (although I don't think I've seen that request yet this fall) and the players having more input on personnel decisions/repercussions along with it. But when the players have input on jersey and pant combos, that's a bridge too far.
