both are "shocked" and are gonna wait to see who we get as a replacement. neither said anything to worry about. they are just waiting for the dust to settle.

When Cal left Memphis 3 years ago they had 4 players signed ,2 ended up at Kentucky one at Kansas. They had a clause if Cal left they were free to op out and Memphis was dumb enough or pressure by Cal to put it in there. So if there was clause put in ours they are free to go , Most AAU coaches tell there players to have this done .So we just need to wait and see.

a coaching change does not make a NLI null and void. but substantiated recruiting violations do.. Cal had substantiated recruiting violations shortly after he left Memphis. I don't think you can modify a NLI or have clauses added to it.. a NLI is a NLI, standard from the NCAA. if that were the case, college athletics would be a **** storm.

From a NLI: "I understand I have signed this NLI with the institution and not for a particular sport or coach. If a coach leaves the institution or the sports program (e.g., not retained, resigns), I remain bound by the provisions of this NLI. I understand it is not uncommon for a coach to leave his or her coaching position."

The AD in Memphis did this for Cal ,I live in Memphis and the fans went crazy, they lost Henry ,Cousins and a JC kid.It almost gor RC Johnson fired. I just read The CL article on Rodney Hood we could very easy lose him too.

Hood ain't going nowhere. Wonder if Sidney will beg for his spot back? Deville Smith would thrive in Shaka's style too so I hope he's not gone.

We can release them. And if we dont, it becomes a PR nightmare because every media outlet worth a damn will write op-eds about how the all powerful school is holding a kid hostage.
There is something to be said for it too. Why would we want to force a kid to play for us if they dont want to? We just let our winningest coach go because of constant team issues, why bring another in for the new coach to deal with?

Recruits sign on to play for a coach, not a school. Thats the reality. And in recent years, schools have begun to accept this reality. But see Houston or DePaul 2 seasons ago if you want hundreds of examples of how being stubborn just because you may be technically correct will hurt the program.

That's also good news, b/c our recruits can't follow him anywhere else. He will still be hanging around the basketball complex, trust me..

The fanbase was starting to split over him and if he'd come back next year it would have gotten a lot worse. This will bring the fanbase together and we'll still have Stans here supporting the new coach, which should help us with the recruits we've already signed and are still recruiting. It's a win-win situation for everybody.
