he would be a big loss, especially if deville is gone

But I have faith that any coach we get will hold onto the commits he wants to keep

This is a classic case of reporters reporting a non story. Gray cannot reopen his recruitment unless the new coach releases him to do so. Gray apparently didn't know what the rules of signing a NLI are.

Furthermore, this is why you will probably never see an early signing period in football. Kids should have right to choose their coach. Nonetheless, Gray is a Bulldawg unless he transfers and sits out a year

This was my first thought but I wasn't sure. I was wondering how he could just open his recruitment with a signed LOI already.

I feel like we're in position to make a really good hire, and whoever the guys is, he won't let Gray get away.

The new coach. Devonta has already said he will probably sign early in the late signing period which starts in eArly April. And I'm sure all of our current signees are thinking about what is gonna happen and who they will be playing for. If they don't like the guy we hire, they can ask for their release and go elsewhere either with our blessing or even sit out a year. I think we need to get our coach hired Sooner than later.

think about hiring a coach too fast just to save a recruiting class. Best to wait on the right guy. Every year has plenty of Josh Gray's. Only once in many years can you hire a Shaka Smart.

about how long it's going to take to hire a coach? Believe me, Stricklin knows what he's doing. He's going to hire the new coach as soon as he can. But he's not going to hire the wrong coach just because he got in a hurry.

Don't worry, Scott will have us a coach in two or three weeks.... It takes a little time to hire the right guy, especially if he is still coaching in the tourney...

he's being brought in to START at PG next year. We would almost have to know Deville is able to go long term to release Gray. Not only that, we burned a scholly on PJ Hardwick just in order to get him as well. I certainly wouldn't release him until we get a new coach.

He shouldn't even have to request it, but when was life fair in the NCAA.<div>
</div><div>He should be allowed to go wherever he wishes, and Stricklin should do the right thing and give him that opportunity.</div>

We release him now or have every AAU coach mad at us and in the future they won't let the new coach near any players .This is not like football ,AAUcontrols the preps and we just get a black eye for this .The fact players wanting to transfer or get their release shocks some of you but you ever thought it was Stansbury who they wanted to play for . Life is a ***** even when you get your way sometimes.</p>

To say that we will get a black eye for not releasing him immediately is beyond ridiculous. Under no circumstances would any AD grant a release before the new head coach is hired. You at least want to give yourself a chance to hang on to a kid, and the AAU coaches know this. They will not hold it against a coach that hasn't even been hired yet because the AD didn't grant a release. Everyone needs to just calm down. We will get a coach hired in the next few weeks, he will talk to these kids and ease their minds, and we will hang on to a majority of this class. We may lose someone, but I would much rather hire the best coach for our program and lose a Josh Gray, than to rush to a hire and save a class but suck for years because we got the wrong coach. We will be fine, and Stricklin will make a good hire that will hang on to this class

Why is anybody surprised by a signee getting antsy.....they have NO ties to MSU except the staff that recruited them.

Will find the right man for the job. I just don't want these kids we have signed already to jump ship. Josh Gray is by all accounts a great player. We just saw what Craig Sword can do Fred T and Gavin had good games as well. And devonta is a great one too that has said he will more than likely sign early in the signing period. My point in my post was Stricklin saying there was no rush Well I know Scott and crew are working on who to interview. We just need to move quickly when these guys become available for interviews and get the right guy hired as soon as possible. I wasn't expecting for us to hire a coach lot day or anything.
