it does kind of suck... but, it is part of it. I'd feel better if he had another offer to fall back on.

After reading that article, if I were him I would be jumping at the Samford offer and calling them every day too.

No way in hell Tennessee wants this guy, he is kidding himself big-time if he thinks he can make the UT roster.

Do feel bad for him though...

I feel bad for him as well - maybe we can at least do the invited walk-on thing and have a chance to earn a scholly.

Samford called, and I told them what had just happened. They told me I should have a scholarship offer from them in a few days.
That's exactly where he belongs. There should never be another Henig in the SEC...ever.

other than that, hopefully the kid will get a good offer at a good school. If Felker is retained, hopefully it will be in some administrative position.....Bulldog Club or similar.

I feel bad for Hollingsworth, however, he will be able to find a home quickly. With his first incoming offer being Samford, you wonder what transpired during the season, did he have a mediocre senior year?

Pounded on them all day long. Yeah Henig threw 2 TD's but he also threw a pick 6. Just saying that another Henig sized and type player should never play in the SEC.

Mullen: knock, knock... Uh.. Boss, I know you said we'd honor all Sly's scholarship offers, but... well, you might want to see this. presses play

Byrne: Oh... ugh... damn.

Mullen: Yeah.. figured you hadn't seen that.

Byrne: Ok.. I'll take the bullet on this one. Pull it.

I thought it was a stupid offer to begin with, but I gotta give props to old buddy Rocky for meeting him face to face.

Seriously.....that's rare in these times.

He also turned down our offer to greyshirt so it's hard to feel too bad for the kid.

we need to make room for a new long snapper. Feld's detached cornea is a career ending injury. Carlson might not have a leg but he does have a cannon.

for who knows what reason, the guy is not SEC caliber and I would think he should want to go somewhere that he can play and play well (like a Samford). I think we should be obligated to give the guy help finding a place if he needs it but I really did a double take when Croom allowed this guy to commit way back when he did. Some of the QB evaluation that went on during the Croom era was mind boggling. For example, I can still remember signing the white option QB from TN (Ty Martin??) that nobody else even looked at. He came in for a couple of years realized that he was out of his league and transferred. It was wasted time for him and a wasted scholarship for us.

yeah, it is a business.
however, most all of the MSU fanbase was ready to take fire and pitchfork up to Hopkinsville when Hopson had been committed to us forever, then suddenly decided to go elsewhere.

i find it hard to say that a coach refusing to honor a commitment is business, but a player refusing to honor a commitment is horrible/deplorable/corrupt/the son of Satan.

they are, to me, on the same level. both really really suck for the side that is getting screwed, but in the end...it is business, like you said. i do hope many who villified Hopson will be able to make this connection and realize that they are much the same.

its hard to feel too bad for him? he just went from being a QB at a BCS school on scholarship...to having the offer to friggin pay his own way, not be on the team, and have the chance to maybe possibly be on it later?

wow, what a consolation prize that is.

he is a 2*/3* QB who has D1 talent(seeing as how D1 teams have offered/shown interes). you really think going from scholarship offer to grayshirt offer should make him not be pissed?

I understand what you're saying, but I think all bets are off when a coaching change occurs. I've heard all the "you commit to the school and not the coach" crap, but I doubt many people would have questioned Hopson at all if his decommittment had come after a coaching change.

A horrible post? Maybe. But not QB smack. I don't claim to be as smart as you though.

Don't worry, I am sure he will end up at some OOC school we put on our future schedule and promptly grudge <17> us.

For someone who tries with every post to prove how smart he is, it looks like a huge leap to say that was QB smack.

He was given an offer to pay his own way as a part-time student for ONE semester and then join the team in spring 2010. He was probably going to redshirt and not play next fall anyway. Do you really think Mullen would offer the greyshirt and then take it away at the last minute? The only greyshirt offer I can ever remember not being honored was when Colton Jenkins went against our coach's wishes by playing a year of JUCO, thus burning a year of eligibility.

And yes, I do consider this a hell of a consolation when no one else in the SEC is willing to give you the time of day.

i was just checking those stats for myself. I also noticed that our QB records make me want to cry. If Russell is half of what any realistic expectation is, then he should shatter our QB record book (thats because our records suck).

Likes Mississippi and USC...makes sense....one has won something significant in the last 30 years, one hasnt.....one's fans act as if they have been in the BCS championship series for the last six year, the other actually has played in many BCS bowls
One is in a town that features tradition, good resturants, some rich lawyers and residents who dress really sharp.......and the other one is Oxford
One is known for people who throw around money, the other in known for idiots sweating in blazers throwing whiskey bottles
One got a black eye during the Reggie Bush scandal, the other hasnt won anything significant since black players began playing in the SEC- about 35 years.
One is good and doesnt suck.....the other is Mississippi
One has a coach with unlimited talent......the other has a coach with unlimited texting
