He is a teenager and ACL repairs are so common now they have gotten good at it. It wouldn't surprise me at all if he is correct.
I agree with you and very much hope that time frame is accurate for him. But, it still seems like a very fast and overly optimistic look at such a bad injury. And, I do get what you say about his age, rehab and advancements in surgery.

Union County has a wrestler (Jordyn Raney, world team member) tear his ACL while competing for Team USA in Amman, Jordan in August 2024, had reconstructive surgery in Gainesville in September, and proceed to come back 4 months later (albeit not 100%) in January and pin his way to his 5th HS state title in February. These athletes get world class doctors and rehabbing compared to us peons lol.

Let's say he's off by a full month and a half. He'd still be back in time for every significant game on the schedule as of now aside from Michigan State in the Champions Classic. And he'd be part of all the team meetings, all the "walk-through" type stuff about schemes and philosophy. He should have a relatively short transition to being 100 percent physically and mentally.

Playing dukes advocate for a minute, but if they're betting on a quick recovery or a somewhat quick one, then why would cal let him walk so easily?

I really hope the kid does well and makes a full recovery, but I do wonder about the return of investment in this situation

Rolling around on the ground for a few minutes is totally different than running back and forth on a basketball court

Iโ€™m like Missouri. Show me.

Once he gets at UK his recovery will slow if history is correct. A sprained ankle is a season ender.

Our guys donโ€™t bounce back quickly. Must be the water.

Hoping we donโ€™t have a Sharpe scenario.

I will admit the floor could be low, but the ceiling is very, very high. The likeability of this kid could be through the roof.

Well for starters, he didn't play for Cal (ifornia) or Cal (at Arkansas), that may be why Cal let him leave so easily, he never played for Cal.

I have forgotten what the story was. Why did he not follow to Fayetteville?
He just didn't feel like it was the right "fit". He actually gave Pope a chance to re-recruit him to UK. The kid and his dad really respected Pope (hence coming back to UK this time around), and rather than just open up his recruitment, they actually took time to listen to Pope / UK. Never considered Arkansas though after de-committing.

I'm sure a lot of us go back to Poythress. 9 years isn't that long ago. He had a couple months longer to recover, but wasn't himself that entire season after his surgery.

Itโ€™s great to see the young superstar in great spirits. Thatโ€™s very important for a full recovery but also for him to be patient.

Of course, age, severity of injury and how the procedure is done matters. Him being so young could help him heal and recover better and faster than your average professional athletes that typically require in average 8-9 months with some recover in 4-6 months and others needing all the way to one year.

All he is saying he hopes to be ready by September for full contact that will be 6 months from the procedure and be ready for the first game , November which will be 8 months.

Itโ€™s normal for him to say that. He wants to get heal fully and quickly, which we do as well. Of course, this also help him with NIL negotiations.

Wish him a full and quick recovery and to be a true superstar in Kentucky Jersey to bring number 9!

My son had a devastating knee injury( complete ACL tear:took another ligament to make a new ACL, and tore his meniscus in 4 places). He had surgery October 23, 2024. He's been cleared for full speed running and cutting. In 2 weeks the doctor expects him to be 100% ready for full contact in spring football practice. The surgeon you get and the type of rehab makes a BIG difference. Also being 17 years old doesn't hurt.

I'm not gonna judge anyone by how hard poythress played. He was the hardest to judge of anyone weve had

Great to hear that about your son, very happy to hear he will be good to go. Hoping that's the same for JQ. That would be fantastic.

Iโ€™m laughing at the โ€œDukeโ€™s Advocateโ€ part. Thatโ€™s great!

I remember Poythress, what some are forgetting is that everyone is different. Some people heal quicker than others. God did not make us all the same. When I was younger I healed a lot faster than other folks.
