He looked explosive against St. John’s. Games following not so much. I don’t think he decided to dog it. I think the swelling is bothering him.
If his knee is swelling, that alone will delay his mental recovery from ACL surgery. Mental recovery from knee injury can be more difficult than the physical recovery. The fear of reinjuring and impacting a potential NBA future could be massive. JQ is a big strong kid but that has zero to do with mental healing from injuries. Not trying to defend the kid but it is not as simple as saying, "I am playing hell or high water." I think we need as a fanbase to lighten up on JQ.

If he is hurt but expects to be back, then just say he's "out for 3 weeks" or something. This day to day stuff just adds to speculation.
That is on our coaches, not JQ. Pope needs to make this statement if HIPA will allow. Our world today is much different Than it was just a few years back.

I think you just roll with Moreno as the starter and the rest by committee. If JQ has swelling in his knee, nobody knows the timeframe for him to be in game shape. He's probably done this season. I don't blame him either, he doesn't have a ton of control over latent recovery issues and he did try to give it a go.

Let's ask this question. Could JQ have made the buzzer beater against LSU? Moreno caught the ball and ripped that shot like a pro. It wasn't a lucky bounce or a tip in under the basket.

I’m being optimistic that he’ll play a few more games. I should probably flush the optimism
He will play again for us. Anyone who believes otherwise is jaded and making assumptions based on other past experiences. JQ didn’t quit on the team, stop with the nonsense posts about it.

That is my point. Why would you just hand out NIL money to a player that is already injured without some sort of protection in just his case?
Like I said, it is like going to a crap table hoping you get something in return.
Is this method of recruiting worth the risk versus reward?

It was probably our only way to get a player of his caliber. Most other schools probably stayed away.

The interesting thing with NIL though.. he could come back and make several mil. Hes falling on draft boards and he really cant just play it safe and shut it down (unless he truly has to).. NBA teams are going to want to see something and hes already shown a heck of a lot of rust in the few games he came back.

Before NIL, this guy was 100% gone to the NBA. But now, idk, I could see him kind of having to come back. Now that doesnt mean it will be here by any means... but coming back for a year, prove the knee injury is behind him, and make $2mil. Or he gets drafted 22nd and floats around for a while.

I think financially he would be ahead to return to college. I don’t think he will be a lottery pick at this point.

But if he plays in college next year does he play here?

Man the days of NIL. You give me 25,000 I’ll go do anything the program needs all season. I’ll play with broken legs. These guys get life changing money to sit on the bench. I could be as helpful to Kentucky basketball as JQ and Noah. Idc if he’s this big lottery pick. Not doing a damn thing for the program. Injury isn’t his fault. Just the goofy coach we have.

Who doesn’t play matters little to me. I saw who needs to play the bulk of the minutes in the second half against LSU. Shots aren’t always going to fall but I’m sticking with the effort guys and putting the rest on notice. This dude is not ready to play anywhere. Should have taken the year to heal up.

Saulzall: "
Looks pretty mobile int his clip:

LOL, he's moving 20% as freely as the rest of the team. First it was "he'll never play a single minute here!" and now it's "he'll never play another minute here!"

alright, mark this down, feel free to quote me.

I saw him practice about a week before his debut. I was on here telling everybody that was doubting that he ABSOLUTELY would play

I am now of the opinion that he will not log another minute for us.

Hope to be proven wrong.

the fact that his dad was complaining about his role right before he goes on extended injury leave has to send up some red flags, right?

How and why were you able to watch practice? I thought those were pretty much closed. I’m impressed

My son had the same type of injury in football a year and a half ago, maybe even more damage than JQ had. He was cleared for 100% activity 6 months to the day after surgery. He had to wear a big special made brace through summer basketball and all of football this past season. He had to shut it down during summer basketball because of the lateral movement was just too painful at the time. In football he did well on turf fields but natural grass really bothered him. The surgeon released him from wearing the brace in November which was 13 months after the surgery. He's just not the same in basketball as before. I said all of this because I haven't saw JQ wearing the type of brace that my son wore and by the time frame according to my son's experience JQ should still be wearing one. It was a big brace with metal hinges on the sides. The surgeon for my son was a former Titans doctor who is the best orthopedic doctor around. I can certainly see how JQ is having issues with his knee based upon how my son did. I question why isn't he wearing a special brace made personally for him like my son did. The first doctor to observe my son's knee said he'd never play again, but they were his primary physician and not a specialist. I'm withholding criticism of JQ because I can certainly understand his situation.

not sure if this is you asking seriously or trying to gotcha me?
i work near Rupp. semi-connected to UK but not really. we typically get invited to see 1 practice per season
i posted about it when it happened. it was the practice where Lowe and Kam were running up and down the steps the whole time.

Im kinda of the opinion that his knee just won't take daily practice and two games a week at this point.
JQ is all physicality and motor.
A 75% JQ is not going to contribute that much and won't unseat Moreno as the starter.
Like someone else said, he's here to show his game to the NBA.
He's not going to become a role player just to help UK win more games .

Jerry gets a bad rap
He always said most other sports reporters were more interested in being "boosters" than in being "journalists". And he was 100% correct.
No he doesn’t. He was an asshat who was only interested in getting dirt. There should be a balance there between standard basketball questions, which he wasn’t really interested in, and things off the court which he was all about.

I will be surprised if he plays again. An NBA player wouldn’t be playing with his condition. And college ball is now the minor leagues for the NBA. These guys really don’t have love and desire for the game or the school. And when most are here a yr maximum. How could they? It’s all money all the time.

We need JQ to have any legit march chance. At the same time it seems like he is gonna watch until he determines whether we are going to be competitive or not. Saturday is a mammoth game. We win and we will probably get to 5-2 in sec. Lose and I think the ole miss (who is better than Missouri) and Texas become very difficult home games, that’s how the mentality of the team works.
this group has no chance in the SEC let alone the NCAA
sad to say that, but the truth hurts

HIPPA would only deal with particulars of the injury. Pope can say whether JQ is coming back or not. The staff isn't being transparent.

Time to burn Hawthorne Redshirt & think about next year .
Play MM & Jelly as much as possible - Sub BG Mo as needed (both gone next year)
Start Kam - give Noah some playing time as needed
OO is OO - so let the big dog eat.
Aberdeen is frustrating & let JJ give him breaks.
JQ is done but if he wants to play- let him play
NEXT YEAR IS NOW💙💙

Is it nonsense that we paid a large sum of money for an injured player who will not provide any ROI? Stop white knighting for this inept head coach!
