I hope I’m wrong but it’s possible he shuts it down for the season. I don’t think JQ’s camp is happy with his role.
His dad's comments really contribute to the feeling that JQ might shut it down. It sounds like he was expecting JQ to be a focal point of the offense and we changed how we played. It's all speculation of course, but without those comments I think more people would buy into the swollen knee problems.

No offense to JQ or his dad, but lingering effects of an injury aside, he wouldn't have been the focal point of any offense anywhere. Some say he's rusty, he's got a lot of things that suggest he needs at minimum another year in college.

not sure if this is you asking seriously or trying to gotcha me?
i work near Rupp. semi-connected to UK but not really. we typically get invited to see 1 practice per season
i posted about it when it happened. it was the practice where Lowe and Kam were running up and down the steps the whole time.
Yall hiring sounds like a good gig lol

Is it nonsense that we paid a large sum of money for an injured player who will not provide any ROI? Stop white knighting for this inept head coach!
What we paid is irrelevant. Has nothing to do with posters being idiots and thinking they know something when they have zero idea. They project past athletes on new ones and it’s never ending garbage spewing. Zero facts, zero information just them piling on when they have no idea. Money paid doesn’t mean a thing for what I posted. People get over paid in every profession everyday, so be it.

He's SS2.0, he only played because he wanted to prove to NBA that the ACL wasn't an issue, but then he got exposed as not being a very good player and that's why he's not playing. He played very cautiously when he was in there, in such a way to minimize exposure.

Who recruited, paid, and signed him? Who made him the “just wait until we are healthy” smoke screen? Not really directed at you but I’m seeing the same stuff as I’ve seen before with Calipari.

This is getting as bad as “he can’t make shots for them” post which are probably the worst take over ever seen in sports and show an absolutely delusional mind frame that happens when people have nothing left to prop up a dead coach walking

Mark created this. Mark is fully responsible for it all, he’s the man making all decisions. It’s almost as bad as breaking one of the first Saban rules, don’t hire to help and scratch backs, hire the best for the job. First thing Mark did was disregard one of Sabans top 3 rules for success.

All of this other stuff is just noise. The guy can’t handle this job.

I don't like this whole notion of well he's being paid so he needs to play.

If dude is injuried then that's it.

If he's actually injured it doesn't do either UK or JQ benefit to play. NBA players get paid millions and if they are hurt they don't play.

Can you imagine a school saying "well yes we know you are hurt but we are paying u millions and they go out and try to play and they do even more damage to their health"........UK won't get another big name recruit at all lol..

My son had the same type of injury in football a year and a half ago, maybe even more damage than JQ had. He was cleared for 100% activity 6 months to the day after surgery. He had to wear a big special made brace through summer basketball and all of football this past season. He had to shut it down during summer basketball because of the lateral movement was just too painful at the time. In football he did well on turf fields but natural grass really bothered him. The surgeon released him from wearing the brace in November which was 13 months after the surgery. He's just not the same in basketball as before. I said all of this because I haven't saw JQ wearing the type of brace that my son wore and by the time frame according to my son's experience JQ should still be wearing one. It was a big brace with metal hinges on the sides. The surgeon for my son was a former Titans doctor who is the best orthopedic doctor around. I can certainly see how JQ is having issues with his knee based upon how my son did. I question why isn't he wearing a special brace made personally for him like my son did. The first doctor to observe my son's knee said he'd never play again, but they were his primary physician and not a specialist. I'm withholding criticism of JQ because I can certainly understand his situation.
I was wondering that myself, I would think that sleeve he wears doesn’t do much.

It’s almost like Pope is doing everything Cal did that we didn’t like. Without the wins.

You know, I was just thinking there probably aren't too many coaches or fans of other teams feeling sorry about us being so rock bottom that we have to go with Malachi Moreno...

Then obviously he is day to day. Not shutting it down. I expect if that does happen, he will say it.
You may be right, but you do not appear to have learned your lesson from the SS situation. I bet you set your alarm for every Cal press conference to see if there was word on Shady, lol. Did you attend warmups, too?

Where is that @Jn12 guy that sticks up for him every thread? Conveniently absent in the thread so far.

However, make sure to not mention Shaedon Sharpe or he'll get big mad.

So, something that has happened one time is now the rule. Did you not learn your lesson with Jaland Lowe? Jeesh, maybe you should take a chill pill.

Admittedly, I never watched one second of JQ at ASU, so I couldn’t tell you whether he’s his old self or not. But the fact is, if you look at the stats and compare him with Moreno, JQ is 1) blocking less shots per minute 2) rebounding at almost the exact same rate, and 3) not nearly as good on the offensive end. The dude is 4-13 at the line. Come on. And that has nothing to do with his injury. I’ll ride out the season with MM

I’m not gonna get all over JQ because he had a serious knee injury… but can you imagine the older players sitting out and doing the things these guys do. Not our guys but everyone. Can’t see Ramel Bradley telling Tubby he can’t go. Anybody see Mashburn sitting out because a stubbed toe? Cousins sitting out? John wall sitting out? AD? Assuming it’s college lmao. Chuck Hayes? Kelenna Azubuike ?

Hate how everybody these days acts like a NBA all star.

The fact the initial statement said his knee has been swelling every game since returning to play, Id lean the door is open to not playing again this season. We all know about what's been said on Twitter regarding to how he's used so I won't go into that, but it's a thing.

IDK, I never got the feeling that JQ was a quitter. It’s possible he will be back and in my opinion, if he doesn't, I think he'll end up back in college next year. All he did so far this year, is show how NOT NBA ready he is.

He’s not really a good fit for Pope's style. If you can't hit shots, you're working against what this system requires from all 5 positions to work.

Hopefully he comes back, but part of me is concerned that him returning, will only ruin any chemistry that this team builds up by then. Plus, like I said, he's not a good fit for this system, especially if he's not going to rebound, or dominate the paint.

He could dominate at Arizona State, look at the weak competition and lack of athletesism in that conference, he can't dominate in the SEC and he can’t shoot.

Yeah I agree. He just doesn't strike me as someone that would quit on the team. He seemed like someone that was very eager on getting out there and playing at least to me.

I think he wants to play, but has so many people in his ear that it becomes difficult. He’s had plenty of time to recover. Swelling is evidently part of the process, but at what point does it become a distraction rather than being beneficial to have him in the team. If I’m him I’m saying I’m playing. I’m gonna kick some Vol *** today. I might have to deal with some swelling from game to game for a while, but basketball is what I do.

Arizona State is in the Big 12, a very strong basketball conference. When he came back he was obviously rusty, not in top game condition as you would expect. He will probably never be an offensive force. His game is defense, rebounding and shot blocking. Any offensive contributions would be from offensive rebounding and put backs and oops. I’m not gonna write off an 18 year old kid coming off knee surgery. But hes probably not gonna be much help this year even if he did come back due to the still shaky health of his knee.

It’s not as physical or athletic as the SEC is and have you seen any of his highlights where he's doing it against the better teams in the conference? Yeah, sire, he'll make a great play here and there, but did he ever dominate a good BIG12 team?

I understand your underlying point that he wasn’t dominant last year offensively. But the Big 12 has Arizona, Houston,Kansas, Texas Tech. It’s a great league. He was only 17 in that league and held his own at least defensively. He has talent. We just haven’t truly seen it here due to his injury.

JQ came back after only 9 months. I talked to my brother who is a PT. He said its common for athletes to be fully healed from the ACL injury, but to battle swelling. These aren't men and women walking to their desk chairs.
