I don't know that people are giving up on DB...
It's not him so much him as it is the severe need for athleticism and mobility at the position...as well as the fact that this offense doesn't have a true go to play maker than can make things happen...it's really uncanny that there hasn't been anyone emerge as a play making threat...
If we had a Randall Cobb, Jacob Tamme, Steve Johnson and an OL that could provide some competitive blocking, I would say DB will be alright...but we don't have any of those...
the defensive players, especially in this league are faster and more athletic than they've every been, and in this modern age of football the focus has shifted from stopping the run to getting to the QB...so unless you're Alabama with all pros blocking, catching, and running...you need some versatility at the QB position to have some play making and production as well as alleviate some pressure on the other positions and free them up...
DB still has 3 years left...CMS may not...
This staff needs to hit the Juco and Transfer trail hard to find somebody that can come in and play right away...maybe even someone who has 2 years left...like a Jake Coker or Chad Kelly, but someone more mobile...
I think DB could be very good if everything else was solidly in place around him...but that is not the case...
If there is a better option to be had out there than this staff has to jump on it and DB can be developed over the next year or two perhaps getting some series here and there...and by the time he is a Jr or Sr when everything is hopefully in place and he has a competitive experienced sec roster and staff around him he could be the man and succeed...
but right now we need more at the QB position than what DB can provide...
