Judging from Stricklin's Twitter feed, he is not a fan of OOC games against...

teams from other BCS conferences. I have to agree with him. We really have nothing to gain. Our schedule strength is already going to be ridiculous given our SEC West opponents.<div>

It's a smart move. Granted, I think most SEC teams, outside of those with traditional rivalries, will adopt that same strategy when the league goes to a 9 game slate over the next couple years.

Football is the one sport where SOS means very little at all, especially if you aren't a team vying for the national title, and even then it typically means little.

The more wins the better, regardless of where they come from. We got the Cotton Bowl instead of the Liberty in 2009 because of our cupcake OOC schedule. There is a decent chance you would've been watching bowl games on TV this year with a tougher OOC schedule. Just two quick examples. Stricklin gets it.

Other conferences are going to it because they need to. The SEC doesn't need to.

This is exactly right. MSU should be finished with tough-guy OOC schedules. No more Mr. Nice Guy and take it on the chin with the likes of Oregon, Oklahoma State, West Virginia, etc. The only mistake in the foreseeable future is Mississippi Southern. On the other hand, Ole Miss doing a 180 with Texas,Boise, Clemson and Ga. Tech.

schedule Miss. Normal School as the opener. Now they won't catch us between conference matchups.

we will pretty much have to move to a 9 game schedule. I think a lot of people see the four 16 team conferences as inevitable and expect it sooner rather than later.

ETA: I'm not one of those people. I think we hang at 14 for several years at least.

i'm sure yall have seen the pac 12-big 10 announcement. i'm hearing rumblings of a similar deal between the sec and acc. this is really going to put the pressure on ND who rely on michigan, mich st, purdue, stanford, usc, etc to fill out their schedule. are these programs going to be willing to play 9 conference games, a pac 12/big 10 OOC game, and ND? if these agreements go down, the big 12 (should already be) will be scrambling to fill out to 12+ again and ND will be in a tough spot. another cog on the way to 4 or 5 superconferences.
