The ironic thing was that they had to apologize to candidate Sean Frazier, who by all accounts would have been a home run hire, for going ballistic with LGBT questions and getting hostile during the questioning.
They actually offered the job to a 3rd candidate, someone from a west coast G5 school as I recall, who after walking around the campus and touring the facilities, turned it down. They then went with Hermann. But, yes, they brutalized Frazier because they did not want him.
She was literally the worst of the entire candidate pool. Any one would have been better.
I don't think the search firm even considered her; Sweeney was the one who inserted her into the candidate pool.
If I remember correctly, the reason Barchi let Sweeney hijack the process is because Rice called one of his players a "f-gg-t" during practice and Barchi was terrified that ESPN and NJ local media was going to accuse him and the school of being anti-gay. So he let Sweeney do whatever she wanted in hopes they'd leave him alone and move on to the next dope.
Had a friend whose mom worked for the RU Admin and retired before Barchi came on board. About a year or two after she retired, she ran into one of her former colleagues in a store and, when asked, her colleague said Barchi was great with the research side of things and a pússy when it came to everything else.
I recall most of the usual loud mouths around here talking about how Julie “gets it”.
I don't. What I remember is that a bunch of us were very concerned that she had never worked with any of the real money making sports, her experience at Louisville was with the Olympic sports.
She could have been fine elsewhere - she was a horrible fit, neither media nor politically savvy, and for RU, those skills are as important as running the department.
Probably her worst decision was undermining Flood - in hindsight, he may have been successful with the proper support (and Saquon honoring his commitment - I don’t blame him for running from the dumpster fire).
I don't think she was cut out to be an AD period. She didn't have the people skills or the ability to wrap herself around, and apply herself to, the big picture.
Also, f the Twitter account making money reveling in someone’s failure. She sucked as AD, she’s been gone a decade, leave her alone.
Gotta agree with this: time to let it go.
HUH???
She saw that Flood had lost control of the ship and wanted to get rid of him. In hindsight, the program overall may have been in much better shape if people listened and didn't interfere.
But yeah, she undermined Flood...SMDH (and this is coming from someone that hated her as AD).
Disagree. She began undermining Flood before the 2013 season, only a couple of months after she had been brought on.
(She started in May, 2013.) And everyone knew it, just as it was known that she couldn't get any donor to cover the buyout for Flood at the end of the 2013 season.
