He just follows Sarkisian around since they met in the pros. He's got an OC in name only title, Sarkisian calls all the play. It's why you don't hear his name mentioned for coaching openings. He's a good OL coach but nothing more than that.
He still did something Greg did not- won a share of a conference championship! (blah, blah, blah-with Greg's players.)---but with no boneheaded, snatching defeat from the jaws of victory play calls, and with infinitely less resources than Greg has been gifted. It's not about being related or a super fan---it is FACTS.

Arguing over if Flood or Schiano are a better coach is like arguing over which is a better car: Ford or Chevy.

It’s a fact that we shared the title with 3 other teams in an 8 team conference. WOW, what an accomplishment. Flood must have share the national coach of the year award with the other 3 coaches too.

Schiano fanboys love to denigrate the accomplishments of Flood and Ash.
Schiano has never won a conference title or a share of one. Flood was HC for 3.5 seasons. Greg has been HC for 17 or 18 years, and nada.

I'm going to need to dig deep on Ash accomplishments. Will need a track hoe and a well driller. First thought was Greg never came back from being down 21-0 to Howard University, so Ash has that feather in his cap!

Facts are hard. I never understood the Flood fanboys club. He was given a gift. Success was defined by a 4 way tie and still blew it.

They’re kind of missing the point. I’m not saying Flood is/was going to be a great head coach nor that he made some dumb decisions…but that he had little support and was undermined when it got out Julie wanted to replace him with Hermann.

And OC at a top 10 school isn’t a job you just give to your friends - especially when your own job security is based on performance.

Schianego obscures reality. Flood had no support. Flood had an unqualified AD actively trying to fire him from day one. Flood had to deal with a three ring circus of the pall cast over Rutgers with the Rice fiasco and multiple Julie flare ups. Not the best environment for success. Greg has been served silver, gold and platinum platters of resources over his 18 years, and has little to show for it in the 2.0 era.

The ironic thing was that they had to apologize to candidate Sean Frazier, who by all accounts would have been a home run hire, for going ballistic with LGBT questions and getting hostile during the questioning.

They actually offered the job to a 3rd candidate, someone from a west coast G5 school as I recall, who after walking around the campus and touring the facilities, turned it down. They then went with Hermann. But, yes, they brutalized Frazier because they did not want him.

She was literally the worst of the entire candidate pool. Any one would have been better.

I don't think the search firm even considered her; Sweeney was the one who inserted her into the candidate pool.

If I remember correctly, the reason Barchi let Sweeney hijack the process is because Rice called one of his players a "f-gg-t" during practice and Barchi was terrified that ESPN and NJ local media was going to accuse him and the school of being anti-gay. So he let Sweeney do whatever she wanted in hopes they'd leave him alone and move on to the next dope.

Had a friend whose mom worked for the RU Admin and retired before Barchi came on board. About a year or two after she retired, she ran into one of her former colleagues in a store and, when asked, her colleague said Barchi was great with the research side of things and a pússy when it came to everything else.

I recall most of the usual loud mouths around here talking about how Julie “gets it”.

I don't. What I remember is that a bunch of us were very concerned that she had never worked with any of the real money making sports, her experience at Louisville was with the Olympic sports.

She could have been fine elsewhere - she was a horrible fit, neither media nor politically savvy, and for RU, those skills are as important as running the department.

Probably her worst decision was undermining Flood - in hindsight, he may have been successful with the proper support (and Saquon honoring his commitment - I don’t blame him for running from the dumpster fire).

I don't think she was cut out to be an AD period. She didn't have the people skills or the ability to wrap herself around, and apply herself to, the big picture.

Also, f the Twitter account making money reveling in someone’s failure. She sucked as AD, she’s been gone a decade, leave her alone.

Gotta agree with this: time to let it go.

HUH???

She saw that Flood had lost control of the ship and wanted to get rid of him. In hindsight, the program overall may have been in much better shape if people listened and didn't interfere.

But yeah, she undermined Flood...SMDH (and this is coming from someone that hated her as AD).

Disagree. She began undermining Flood before the 2013 season, only a couple of months after she had been brought on. (She started in May, 2013.) And everyone knew it, just as it was known that she couldn't get any donor to cover the buyout for Flood at the end of the 2013 season.

Just to emphasize this, Flood was hired after another coach turned down the offer and then Cristobal pulled out citing some BS excuse about his wife not wanting to leave Miami. The truth was that the BOG had dictated that they wouldn't pay over $1 million for a coach, and that the salary pool for the assistant coaches was minuscule. That's why Flood had a revolving door of assistant coaches until 2014 when he was able to bring in Ralph Fridgen.

As for the Julie flare ups, let's not forget that whole Ian Thomas fiasco in the fall of 2013 where someone purporting to be his father suckered Julie. And all of that was facilitated by Douchbag Dan Duggan at the Slimy Star Ledger.

Listening to pro Flood or pro Schiano posters is truly a testament that y’all are the best fans in the country. Seriously, our misery for decades across most sports is so profound that we are left trying to prop up to mediocre P4 Head coaches (at best).

To be fair, that 2012 team should have done a lot more. They were rolling at 7-0 (3-0) and were ranked #18 in late October. From there they lost 4 of 6 to finish that year:
  • 6 turnovers in a Homecoming loss to Kent State
  • 3 touchdown road loss to a bad Pitt team
  • Blew a 2 (should have been 3) TD lead at home in the de facto Big East Championship game to Louisville
  • Lost in what was one of the ugliest bowl performances I've ever seen to a 6-6 Virginia Tech team
Completely wasted that season.

This was all in the wake of the Tyler Clementi incident, and as always, Rutgers went way overboard with their response, all the while discriminating against the most qualified candidate to hire a lesbian with huge skeletons in her closet.

Frazier had too many skeletons in his closet from his dealings at Wisconsin to be a serious candidate at RU.

Julie was not right the fit for the school given how Barchi thought of athletics and how money strapped RU was. My fervor in supporting her was largely driven the scum NJ media and bitter TP loyalists with constant attacks on her and Rutgers daily. Largely because the NJ media was ruined because they totally missed the Mike Rice story which they saw every single day. Rutgers wasnt ready for the Big 10 and they were not ready to be 100% on athletics and much of that is on Barchi. Remember the political climate for the basketball facility. Was going to stay out of this thread because there is a ton of revisionist history being posted about Flood and a pretty sizable contingent of the fanbase and this board wanted him gone following the Uconn embarrassing loss and brutally overmatched performances in a 5 game stretch. She was right on the mark on wanting him gone and the potential for Tom Hermann or others to be hired here. The whole drug testing fiasco, library gate and flood suspension was a black mark and Julie was neutered in September that year and the writing was on the wall that both she and Flood had to go at the end of the year and the things is the NJ politicians forced a Pat Hobbs hire who made a big splash initially but turned out to be a creep.

I will leave this here and this is why Julie was trying to get donors to pony up getting rid of Floyd...and this all before Floyds embarrassing behavior that followed

By the way, talk about our budget woes when she was hired--- all she did was fly first class wherever she went--- even when going back and forth to Kentucky. She blessed us with her own scandals, her abuse of $,getting the media stirred up and her incompetence .Other than that she won you over-- says alot about your opinions.

not defending her at all just revisiting the actual climate back then. She had to go and I said as much back at the end of the football season in 2015. For someone like you who continually brings up foxholes if someone dares speaks out about greg, rutgers or hobbs you certainly never followed that when Julie pissed in your cheerios. You actually cheered on the NJ media dragging rutgers name throught the mud everyday driven by TP loyalist with blindspots on his ineptitude in handling Mike Rice when the incidents actually happened.

Frazier has done extremely well at NIU, and IIRC, his wife had a local practice as an attorney (or maybe a medical doctor), and they chose to stay at NIU for BOTH of their careers.

I don't recall Frazier's skeletons, but they likely paled in comparison to Julie's.

he won 5 bowl games in 6 appearances including a Sugar and Peach. Lofty expectations at Texas....failed at an insignificant school and now assistant at FSU. Odd post.

fact is..Floyd was a failure, Julie was a failure. I do not get the constant revisionist history to elevate him because he is an assistant coach in the SEC. Fred Hill was a great assistant too. Floyds behavior was disgraceful. The comments coming from recruits dropping out were telling. His library behavior is indefensible. Elmer was gifted the job he didnt really deserve. He started out strong and then faded his first season. It was a bad hire by TP who made a slew of bad decisions that led to his own firing and the mess we were in., Good lord we hired Eddie Jordan as hoops coach. Across the board are rep was in tatters just as we were entering the Big 10. Julie didnt make it any better as she could not win over a press that hated her. Another failure that had to go with Elmer. A bad period for Rutgers but this all was set into motion by TPs blunders

He had no defensive backs. There was nothing behind the 2012 group - partially his fault for not doing a better job of addressing it, partially Greg’s for not having more depth in the first place as this kids would have been part of the 2011/12 classes.

Bac is just creating his own facts here. TP got scapegoated over the mike rice thing. He reported it, Barchi and the BOG did nothing. Then ESPN got involved.

TP has gone on to bigger and better. He’s crushing it as the AAC commish. And accomplished the most important thing in RU sports history - getting us into the B1G (and given what he’s done, it clearly wasn’t a fluke).

Frazier had too many skeletons in his closet from his dealings at Wisconsin to be a serious candidate at RU.
He made it to the Final Two candidates and the person who beat him out was only selected because she had the correct genitals and sexual orientation. He might not have been a good choice, but he was definitely a serious candidate.

so you are absolving TP from any blame there. Remember he hired Rice known as a hot head, he had to hire in May after the ridiculous fred hill incident rather than in March where RU likely could have had Fran McCaffery. True, TP reported it and then made Rice enter anger management courses. Yet TP didnt get out ahead of the story. Instead let Murdock be the one who controlled it to the media..to me yes that is failure in handling the crisis situation.

what is the revisionist history...lets start with not firing a failed Fred Hill at the end of the season in March

You’d think by now you’d realize that our lack of money dictates a lot of the decisions at RU. “Fire everyone” sounds great until the bill arrives.
