Byrne knows how sensitive the recruiting situationis right now and delaying that long would be a dagger in the heart as far as keeping any of our top guys-ie Russell, Boyd, Conner. These guys aren't going to wait that long and GB knows it. He will move fast to ease their minds I surmise.

I dont know. If they can do what Pelini did at Nebraska last year, that may work.</p>

I've thought about this and I would be alright with it. I don't care if we announce our new coach tomorrow or the week before official visits can start in January as long as we get the best person available who will take the job. My only concerns about waiting too long are the new coach's ability to put together a great staff, which isn't an issue if we hire a current HC who brings his all his guys with him, and losing December JUCO graduates like McPhee and Smith.

If Whittingham and Petersen get BCS bowls, then you can cross them off the list. I just don't see any coach leaving a school that will be in a BCS bowl to come to Msu, where it's unlikely we will be going to a BCS bowl any time soon. That's why I thought Kelly was a long shot for us this year. </p>
