I know that he and Bryne are very close. They both talk regularly. I know this for fact. I do hope that he will consider it and I know that Bryne can definately sell him on it. It would definately rain on the Fat *** Nut parade.

I know he is better than Croom but please say this ain't so. His players hated him. They all threw him under the bus and said he got what he deserved when he was fired. I don't want a coach that the players are not going to respect and follow.

This would be very awesome.

Seems like everyone is saying Peterson has already said no. What's really going on with that?

the QB he benched threw him under the bus. If Tommy Bowden can come here and win 8 or 9 every year then ill be as happy as a pig in ****.

Unless of course, he is tired of being on the outside looking in at the BCS, still I say unlikely. But I have been wrong before.

but the same guy that told me Croom would be hired the day after Jackie stepped down told me that Peterson was Byrne`s man. We`ll see.

He would almost double his salary and work with someone who he knows well in Byrne.

I doubt he is talking about MSU in this article but it is interesting

with ESPN deal, he knows that we will now be the NFL of college football. We will get a quality coach that everyone will be elated with. We will not pull an Ole Miss and get the Nutt brothers. We will go in a younger direction, like Cohen, and also a proven winner. Peterson is definately interested and don't be shocked if he's named our new coach in the next week. They are ranked 9th and not moving any higher. What's the use of staying around.

This does not mean Peterson would come here. There is zero chance of that happening, and we should be realistic about it.

Any of these guys would take the job if we get the pot right.......2 million will do it, too.

I didn't think Croom would be gone today, so your point is well-made. But Peterson could go anywhere he wanted to, and I suspect his perfect situation is not Mississippi State.

he is considering the job as we speak...a million a year raise with a huge committment from a good friend is very inviting...I'd put it at 50% we get him

Byrne thinks he has a chance to land Peterson and he knows him well. So do you know Peterson well enough that he`s told you there`s zero chance ?

I wonder what kind of HC material Wilson is? The guy who was OU's co-OC with Wilson (Kevin Sumlin) is now the HC at Houston and doing pretty well. Seems Houston would have went after the better of the two when they made the hire last year.

I know OU's DC interviewed for the Clemson job. Could he possibly be a candidate here as well?

...but is this anything like your Spurrier to LSU prediction?

Peterson is a west coast guy. My suspicion is that his dream job is Oregon and he'll probably stay at Boise until that job comes open.

Wonder if you have some sort of inside knowledge? Honestly, I don't see why he wouldn't come here. Expectations here are pretty low in comparison with other places. (We were ready to construct a statue for a guy that won 7-8 games every couple of years!) Money wouldn't be a factor, we can double his current salary without blinking an eye. He has a working relationship with our AD already. Sounds like a place to get his first crack at a BCS school. If he leaves a few years later for a mega-job, so be it.

What am I missing that gives us "zero" chance? He's a West Coast guy? The Scientology thing?

...I have a little something called common sense.

Now, I'm glad that Byrne is willing to go after him, if that's indeed true. We need to be willing to think big and pay big to truly take the step to the next level. Just hearing news that we offered Peterson would help us from a credibility standpoint.

He ain't coming, though.

I am passing along info from people who do actually know...I cant help that miles changed his mind and stayed at LSU...but when Hester tells his dad that he is hearing Spurrier is going to be the next coach, you tend to think that has a chance of happening...

My girl was right about Croom and i'll bet she is right on this one too

...I just don't see any way it happens. This is a guy who can go anywhere he wants. I think it has a lot to do with where he's from, where he's coached, and where his recruiting base is. It's a different world down here from where he's used to.

I'd love to be wrong. I think he's a helluva coach and he would give us a lot of credibility. I love that Byrne is aiming high. I just don't see it happening at all.

I agree Dreb, for the exact reasons you state. Hope we're wrong....but I don't think Petersen is a southern guy at all.

....at least this part is wrong.

he is considering the job as we speak
AD's have to ask for, and receive, permission to talk with employed coaches. This is usually public information. Peterson may very well be at the top of the list, but I would bet my house that Byrne has not, at least, officially talked to him yet.

they talk a couple of times a week...and I doubt he asked their AD for permission each time...

Also, dont think he fired Crooms without having a good idea of who he is going to hire. This isnt LT running this show...He isnt sitting around hoping he can hire a good coach- he went into this knowing what he could get done

I hope Byrne had a pretty dang good idea who he could get and who he couldn't before he made the decision on Croom. If he didn't he's not the AD I think he is. We certainly don't want to come out of this "settling" for someone.

Not really. AD's talk to agents who talk to coaches. The deal is basically done before "official" contact is made. I have no idea but I'd be very surprised if an informal contact has not been made, (hey, how's the wife? Oh by the way, did you hear I canned our coach this moring?) followed by a phone call to his agent if any interest registers.

It's often true when you hear the denial "I haven't been in contact with X" or "I haven't been offered the job"; however, the agent has been contacted and the job offered.
