Pretty much nothing new from what he's been saying elsewhere. He shared some of what he talked about with the players, touted how many rings the coaching staff had, talked about how impressed he was with how the defensive players looked, etc.

Impressively, more than 800 people were in attendance, much more than anticipated. Oh, and the Swan was in the house, and he needs a new uniform. That gray sweatshirt has got to be threadbare by now.

with player autograph / meet-and-greet before the game. He said he wanted 40K people there.

Also, there is a push to get the Egg Bowl back to Thursday night.

<17> off if you think it's Germanic.

He wants 40k fans for the spring game. I hope he gets his wish, but I will poop myself if we pull it off. He does motivate you when he speaks though. He stress the importance of being a champion all the time and challenge those in attendance to do more for yourselves and MSU. It was the best turnout for an event that I've been to since the summer meeting of 2001 in Jackson. Signing day and the spring game can't get here soon enough.

If he makes the spring game more like an actual scrimmage, might make it on turn out. If it is like Croom's spring game, good luck. I would like to see the people turn out and support the team, but I fear the "post-baseball game I can make it back to Jackson at a decent time" will decimate the crowd at 5pm.

...it would be a competitive game. He is going to split up the assistant coaches the day before and let them draft players and let them get after each other. He also said there will be honorary head coaches for each team, which sounds like something that can be purchased if the right amount of money gets donated.

I bet the honorary coaches will be people like Johnie Cooks and Wayne Madkin.

I would like to see HD6 and DS go up against Coach34.

Ok, X button, we're going to play action to you. Now triangle, you have to go deep then cut out, and R1? I want you to cut across the middle

now that we will be better coached, our QB will see where it is coming from and either hit the slant or the fade depending if its press coverage or not...and then the middle screen will break your back

that's not all that much different than how they really do it- X, Y, and Z wide receivers. (You probably did know that, I'm just taking this way too seriously.)

AND...... the QB will understand a "hot route" and be able to throw it to that receiver with one eye closed.

Mullen recognized JS by saying he us to Atlanta once and that we would be going back. Also said he remembered the dance JS's kickoff teams did. Jackall quickly reminded him that he took two teams to Atlanta.

Someone In the Crowd: What's the mood of the team?
DM: "Scared...and I'm going to keep them that way for a few months."
Mullen also brought up the Mad Dawg team, which makes me wonder if he will resurrect it.

Told the Kang how much I missed "Chalk Talk".
After GB and DM's pitch, I'm very tempted now to buy season tickets that I can't afford.
Also, I was impressed with DM's mentioning of SBW and encouraging people to come out because "John needs your support playing his old team" (or words to that effect).

was trying to make a joke but he failed even at that because in his career, we went to the Peach 3 times and SECCG once.

People like C34 think that "it's time to elevate our program" and "We should be in the Sweet 16 every 5 years." People think that the next coach will always be better. Croom was absolute hard proof that you can always ALWAYS do much worse.

don't have a clue about what the odds are of us hiring a better coach vs. the odds of us hiring the next Dennis Felton(or Bob Boyd).</p>

Too bad you and Drebin weren't there to set the record straight. That would have been interesting.

About 120. They had a small room originally set aside, but had to move out into the hotel lobby because they couldn't fit everyone inside. Byrne and Mullen wound up speaking to the crowd from a staircase.

replacing Polk with Cohen was a good idea? You dont think we are going to do better? Thats a much better comparision to Ricky. Crooms was fired because he showed he couldnt handle the job for which he was hired. He showed he couldnt elevate the program- you dont think we have made a better hire in Mullen?

Once for the SECC, and twice for two Peach Bowls.

I met CM today in ATL and it was great. He talked about winning, etc pretty much what you guys said he talked about in Nashville. He is a very good speaker and very personable.

Can't wait for the Spring game.

Damn, dude. Polk took a program with resources as good as any school in the country into mediocrity (and I'm being kind to Polk by saying that he took us into mediocrity). Stans has taken a progem that, other than 2 great years in 95-96 before he took over, had basically no basketball history at all into a perennial NCAA tournament team and multiple SEC divisional, overall, and tournament titles. It wasn't that long before Stans took over that Dick Vitale said that MSU was the hardest place to win in all of Div. I.

MSU baseball - 3 Sweet 16 eqivalents in 4 years (and without looking it up at least 12 in 20 years) before Polk took over.
MSU basketball - 2 Sweet 16s in 100+ years when Stans took over.

...then Georgia Tech took us out to the good old Atlanta Tool Shed! Damn! I thought that damned old Jalopy was going to have it's wheels run off, it ran around the field so much that day.
