I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say if CNN is quoting multiple Twitter accounts (what a source of info) that 50 million is in danger of dying, even worldwide is grossly exaggerated, not many are dying, relatively speaking, while most are recovering. Most deaths are elderly with health problems and the disease doesn't seem to impact the youngest. Less than 5,000 have died worldwide while less than 150,000 cases have been reported and of that nearly 70,000 have already recovered. Compare this to common flu and the numbers aren't even close. This is scary because it is new and no one knows what to expect, panic is never the answer though, CNN's go to emotion. https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/
This is scary only because the media is making that way.

'A group of Texas scientists claims to have created a vaccine to prevent the coronavirus and, according to the CEO of the Houston based engineering company, it could be approved and available to the public by the end of the year.

"We're confident in the vaccine, the quality of the vaccine completely. The end result will be what the government wants to do in terms of testing," John Price, CEO of Greffex, told "American's Newsroom," Monday.

Price said his company developed the vaccine based on the knowledge they obtained from an earlier vaccine they created to combat MERS, which "has a tremendous number of similarities" to the coronavirus, he explained.'

So still multiple months away and they can’t guarantee it’s effective yet until human trials.

According to the Washington Post yesterday, their worst case scenario is nowhere near 50 million. Their forecasts worst cases were hundreds of thousands to 1.635 million. 50 million was either heard wrong for the US or irresponsible journalism.

Here’s the article that also states it won’t be as bad at the 1917 Spanish flu either.

If the spread of the new coronavirus isn’t halted, it could infect 60 per cent of the world’s population and kill 1 in 100 of those infected – around 50 million people.

My bad, worldwide

WHO lists literally dozens of these drugs, all in the pre-clinical trials phase. None of them should be saying with any certainty that they will be effective but I'm sure all of them are quite hopeful.

So the numbers update (since my thread got murdered with stupidity)....

USA has more than 370+ cases while yesterday reporting 307 cases. The good news is only 2 deaths so far, but the cases are growing exponentially.

For USA, theres been 30 people recovered and 40 death. other 1602 active cases. Usually start is much worse for death and it should temper down...

I also don't see any drastic measure taken like other country did to minimize this, so i don't see it subsiding all that much in the near future.

What would you think if say 4000 people a day was dying from it world wide. That would cause panic right? Well that many die each day from tuberculosis and you haven’t heard a peep and toilet paper was still on the shelves. Imagine that....
Didnt know Tuberculosis was transmissible

The World Health Organization

Story at a glance

While the number of coronavirus cases has surpassed 127,000, more than 68,000 people have recovered.

The World Health Organization says those who become infected generally experience mild illness and recover in about two weeks.

The virus threatens people over the age of 60 with underlying health issues.

https://thehill.com/changing-americ...87280-nearly-70000-people-have-recovered-from
^^^ THIS!
But, by watching CNN you'd think that all 127K that were infected are now dead or near death.

Is anyone knowledgeable about whether there is a vaccine for any coronavirus at all? SARS, MERS, and rhinovirus don’t have vaccines and those are other types of coronavirus. So, I feel like it would be kind of surprising if something were quickly developed here.

but I’d love to hear from someone with specialized knowledge.

Gov. of Ohio had a press conference. Take it for what's it's worth, but the Dr. who the head of the Ohio Dept of Health said that all the professionals she's talking to, and the data she's getting is that COVID-19 will peak in Mid-April to May.
If she's right...then perhaps a little ray of sunshine with all the doom & gloom.
I've read the virus best spreads and incubates at a lower temperature than expected (48 F). Hopefully, with precautions and the weather changing the virus will dissipate by mid May.

False. Hurricane season runs through November. Hurricane Maria hit in the end of September.
Maybe I should have written the peak hurricane season in the Caribbean is during the summer months. I've gone a Thanksgiving week cruise for the past four years, so I don't take any chances....

It’s like the big reveal during season 2 of the walking dead. Everybody already has it.
True.

Someone at work said how wrong the tv shows/movies are. The TP is GONE first. Lol

I'll never see TWD the same.

I suspect I’ll have all kinds of crap tossed my way.....but.....For the longest time We have been Soddum and Gomorrah. We’ve degenerated into a civilization that has decided the Bible was not worth following, sexual perversions, Violence and on. Our politicians support the killing of unborn children and all forms of sexual perversion, all in the name of their own self interest and some follow them.
Maybe this virus is God saying that this is his warning, and the worse is yet to come if we continue to fail him.
The good among us will not pay a price in death as will those that have not accepted him.
Before I ramble I’ll stop but it is worth giving thought to. And no I am not crazy and without my own failures. But I’ve thought this and felt saying it was worth the criticism.

except that

there was more violence in the past
there was more sexual perversions in the past
there was more drug abuse in the past

etc. etc. etc.

Agree with the abortion stuff, that's ****** up. Need to get that fixed.

TB is scary stuff. Back in 50s my Grandpa was bedridden for a year because of the disease.

We do? That’s not what I’ve heard. There are vaccines being tested. But that process takes time. I am in the industry.

What’s your guess? I hear 18 months for limited availability for those considered high risk.

You just said what I said.
There are vaccines being tested (there is a vaccine)
And that process takes time (I think in about 3 mns)
That doesn’t mean I think it will be offered worldwide in three months, but the start of getting it out.

No.
1- that some are being tested does not mean “there is a vaccine”, which implies it works. Most vaccines, drugs, and biologicals that are tested don’t work and fail or are shown to not be safe.
2- it takes much longer than 3 months!!! Average time for a drug is 7 years. Even for rare serious diseases with no treatment options (where the FDA will work with you more), it is still at least 2-3 years. Vaccines can probably be faster. But I don’t think 3 months, or even 6.
Even once you are ready for safety and efficacy studies in humans, you have to design the trial, enroll the subjects, collect and analyze the data, write the report, send to the FDA for their review and approval. And then you have to manufacture it. Each step takes time. Patient safety in trials is a big deal!

I don’t work in vaccines, but optimistically I would guess 12-18 months. I’m sure some started working on this as soon as reports came out of China. And caronavirus is not new, so not like starting from scratch.

That seems reasonable. I’m sure mass production has its challenges as well
