And it's better than USM. They should be better than everyone else in the SEC at band. I think they are also a lot more organized with their cheers/what they play and that helps them out a lot too.

Alabama is called the million dollar band for a good reason. They aren't better than anyone else as far as playing goes, but apparently they have a ton more resources financially for props and stuff like that- they can do more than a lot of bands.

Like someone else said- perception is reality. And I do agree with whomever said that the FMB is boring in general. They need to do more stuff like they did with the Thriller show and less Train. And the FMB plays a lot, lot, lot better than JSU's band. It's not even close. But you hear JSU people talk them up all the time, and people think that they are better when in reality they only dance better.

I remember when we played them, a lot of our fans were disappointed and saying- "They weren't as good as I thought they would be".

Mostly since I am rarely at my seat during halftime.

Every single band in college football plays O Fortuna at the end of a botched play or short gain by the other team. I wish we would get at least a little creative here and play something different....bama plays part of the phantom of the opera tune and it sounds great.

Even Kentucky this year plays the dragnet theme when there's a penalty flag...while I don't actually like that (it's kind of stupid since they play it for flags against them as well), it's at least a little bit creative.

I also hate the long-noted first line of the fight song after big plays. Play anything that is not that or O Fortuna.

I also do not like the "shortened" version of the fight song that plays the last 4 notes 3 consecutive times. It seems like during touchdowns or field goals this year we play this instead of the actual fight song.

The quality of any band comes down to the school's music department. MSU has a very weak music department. Considering that, its amazing the FMB is as good as it is.

I was on my second whiskey drink. The greatest indictment of our band is that it is a non factor at half time. Very few fans even notice they are on the field; that is my point. I started school in '80 and we made fun of the band then and it hasn't changed since. Do something different. Be relevant. Be fun, or continue to be unnoticed.

"I think they are also a lot more organized with their cheers/what they play and that helps them out a lot too."

As I stated in my earlier post, they're just more involved. I'm sure from a purely musical standpoint, our band members are great at playing their instruments, but the show/production/execution of everything sucks.

After Ole Miss scored their field goal and their band started playing, someone over the jumbo tron decided it was a great time to play a commercial and drown out the Ole Miss band! Loved It!!
