Editor's note: This story has been updated with new information about the exchange between Marshall Henderson and Rick Ray.

Marshall Henderson was heading back to his team's bench last week, a victory over rival Mississippi State in hand, when he shouted out a phrase including an obscenity.

Thinking it was directed at the Mississippi State team, Bulldogs coach Rick Ray responded with an obscenity directed at Henderson. The Bulldogs' coach apologized a few hours later.

Whether Henderson intentionally instigated this exchange depends on who you ask. Both sides have their opinions.

A year ago, there would have been no doubt. Henderson was the instigator. He was the villain. He was not a sympathetic figure.

Because everyone knows good journalism is getting the article out as soon as possible, then collect all the facts and go back and edit.

They would've been better off just retracting the entire article. That's horrible as it is now. The first few lines now basically say the rest of the story is probably bs.

Katz would rather be partially right than totally wrong and have to admit it.

That's BS. Is there ANYONE that says Rick Ray instigated it BEFORE Henderson shouted obscenities? While the game was going on? I doubt it. The only people saying RR instigated it either don't know Henderson said anything or are denying it and are going just by the animated gif showing only RR's words.

For Katz to actually believe what he wrote originally, he must have an inherent bias because any sane person who heard that Rick Ray said that to MARSHALL HENDERSON would automatically assume (and very likely correctly assume) that it was said in response to some comment from Henderson. Does that excuse RR from his behavior? No. But it definitely mitigates the seriousness of it.

Only question you have to ask is: Do you have some strong concern that RR might do this again?

If he had said that same thing to Jarvis Summers, then, yes, there would be some concern that this is a guy who can't control himself and would likely repeat this type of behavior. However, saying that to MH, the answer is an emphatic "No". Everyone knows MH could very likely push someone's buttons that some other players couldn't ever push.

Simply put, after the spontaneous comment had already occurred, RR handled it the way he should have and that should have been the end of it. But for Katz to write that article in the first place shows some inherent bias by him.
