8-4 looks damn good on a resume. He throws out a 6-6 or a 5-7 next year his value drops. I would bet his agent is keeping him very aware of this. If he`s going to leave this will be the year. IMO

Completely agree with this. Forget the outcome of the egg bowl or how bad our losses are, you better believe that he is weighing the risk of staying another year, if indeed he wants to take the next step. If I were in his shoes, you better believe I'd be thinking hard about whether or not I'd want to stay and risk losing an opportunity to take the next step.

Honestly his stocked has already dropped. After the 2010 9-4 season, his stock was soaring through the roof. If he leaves this year, it will be for a lateral move type job IMO.

He's from New Hampshire, so he would be close to home. Might be like other Yankees, though, and want to stay in the warmer South.

Which is entirely plausible. Put yourself in his shoes... any coach wants to take the next step and coach big time football. Mullen is hungry enough to do that (he'd be stupid not to). He can stay here, live with 6 win seasons and never really be in serious contention for a big time job without having to go somewhere else... or he can go somewhere (even if it's "lateral") where he can get some wins and buy time to take the next step. The question is, does Mullen feel he has peaked here or not?

The reality is, I would be shocked if we win more than 6 or 7 games next year... which wouldn't hurt Mullen here... but it will hurt his stock even worse, and it would take several 8+ win seasons to get it back. Mullen ain't stupid... and I can assure you he has thought about this.

The perfect storm is brewing. ...

Danny Two Gloves is poised for his escape; the black bears are on the rise; half the f'n conference is in full blown coaching search mode; and our guy's first move will be to google "Clemson assistant coaches."

F me.

Hah...we should have offered Greg Byrne more money.

THAT would have been prudent.

Let's hope not. There are already 5 SEC teams searching.

If there is a year to want Mullen gone, it is not this one. But not necessarily because he's the greatest coach of all time.

edit - I still do not get this damn layout. I meant to reply just to the beginning of the thread.

What self respecting coach would jump ship from a mid-tier SEC school to a run of the mill ACC school in the middle of this conference shift?
