In the same news conference where he called out Ole Miss.

Proposes a one-time no penalty transfer, the ability transfer without penalty if the head coach leaves or is fired. All others have to sit out a year BUT they get that year of eligibility back when they graduate.

That would be FANTASTIC.

Only problem: didn't the courts already rule that student athletes can transfer as much as they want like every other student? Or was that just an NCAA decision to head of potential lawsuits? I know after the DOJ ruling, the NCAA tried to get head of some other potential suits. Not sure if that was one of them.

I don't know, but there's nothing in Dabo's proposal that prevents an athlete from transferring as many times as he wants. His proposal just attaches competition-based restrictions on the transfers. Other than your one free transfer (or another qualifying free transfer), you have to sit out a year. That seems entirely reasonable. You are free to do whatever you want, but you aren't entitled to avoid any consequences (just ask any "regular" student who transferred to a new school only to find that he lost a semester's worth of credits that didn't come with him).

Heck, Dabo's plan is more generous than I would offer. I say give everybody only the one penalty-free transfer and that's it, aside from graduate transfers. Use your one free transfer wisely, taking into account such factors as a coach's likely longevity at a particular school.

All of these great ideas like Dabo’s will get struck down by the courts unless the athletes agree. The courts looks down on any attempt to limit ability to make money or limit movement in the workplace unless binding agreements are in place and that doesn’t seem to be the case here.

Well, sure, but there’s never been anything that limits the number of times a player can transfer. They could always transfer as many times as they want. They just had to sit out a year.

It’s true. The rationale of course by many is that student athletes deserve the freedom to transfer like regular students. I think a good lawyer could fairly easily make a convincing case that student athletes are obviously not regular students. The vast majority of them would not even be in college in the first place were it not for athletics, and the vast majority of them would not survive academically if held to normal academic standards. They are not treated like a regular student in any way shape or form during their time in college. They are treated much, much, much better.

Dabo made an extremely excellent point that in a few years, you're gonna have a bunch of 30-year old guys who burned through all their short-term NIL money, have no college degree and no connection to any community b/c they transferred 3 and 4 times.

Will they still be playing in their 30's? Probably.

Why do you keep starting different threads about Dabo but the subject is pretty much the same?

Its astonishing to me that so many of our fans are buying into Dabo's BS. Some type of reform needs to happen, yes. But i completely discount Dabo's stunts becase we all know where it is coming from. This program began throwing cash at players back in the 70s and never stopped. At times (in Dabo's Clempson heyday) they were passing around cash to players and geting pretty much anyone they wanted. For their program, NIL and the portal are their worst nightmares because its taken away that shady, cheating advantage they always had.

He can cover it up all he wants in concern for players, etc but I dont buy it for a minute. He is irate because he lost a player he REALLY wanted to OLE freakin MISS. And he cant believe it because in his mind that just doesn't happen. Screw him.

NIL took away Clempson's cheating advantage. Period. Rage on Dabo.

TLDR but Dabo isn't wrong.
