I get the feeling Fowler didn't really care for Papelbon too much. Between the couple 'get your cigar out of my face' moves, the 'move along with your picks' action, and the "thanks for not lighting up(your cigar)" comment at the end...I bet if you got an honest answer from Fowler he'd say he wasn't impressed.

he probably wished katy would have returned. guest picker is when the show unhinges and our show was already unhinged because of the cowbell.

I have hated Fowler since sometime around 1994. I dont know if anyone else remembers it, but I have never forgotten. A Saturday afternoon in February I believe. State vs Ole Miss in basketball game being played on ESPN. Both teams were bad. Fowler, fresh off the set of Scholastic Sports America (a high school highlight show that he started on), makes the comment "If you're watching this game you really must not have anything to do". He's been on my shite list every since then. Anyone else remember that? My wife says she can't believe I remember that and can't remember to pick up the mail.

Didn't know about that but to me, Fowler definitely comes off as a major prick.

I think the rest of the crew was really getting into it. I think Fowler didn't like the smell of that cigar. But it was the smell of victory.

Perhaps paps wasn't too impressed with fowler either.

I don't care if they liked it here or not. Let's just keep building our program up and make them come here whether they want to or not. 17 em

Got the same impression myself. And no, I definitely do not like Fowler at all. He certainly THINKS he is the brain in the room.

I know, but if you get saliva on cigar it starts to smell. At one point it's about 6 inches from Fowler's nose and he swatted it away.

I happen to like Folwer overall and think he's good at his job, but the reality is that I don't think he's a MSU type of guy. I think he's kind of a perfectionist and I'd bet the working conditions with the cowbells annoyed him greatly and by the end of the day he probably couldn't get out of there fast enough. And i don't think he and Paps are ever the kind that would hang out together.

I don't have a problem with Fowler. He was saying nice things about

Starkville and DWS atmosphere way back when. Herbie would also, but as I recall Fowler was more likely to give our teams credit and Herbie would usually pick against us. Both Chris and Herbie would act like they were happy to be in Starkville when others would take potshots and offer back-handed compliments.

He was obviously annoyed with Paps sticking his hand and cigar right in his face. Don't blame him too much for that, but I thought Paps was awesome and hilarious.

Fowler tweeted -- THANKS, STARKVILLE! I'M SHOUTING BECAUSE MY HEARING WILL NEVER BE THE SAME! FUN, LOUD MORNING AT #HailState @CollegeGameDay

Does anyone have a pic with the peeping crooms sign? I tried looking for it on Gameday, but I think I forgot during some segments to look for it. I was actually looking forward to see it AND at least one sign that had 17 on it...

i like fowler. as far as his comment goes about " you must not have anything to do"...well....isnt he right? you said both teams were bad.

yeah, he acted a little anal about the cigar, but some people are like that. my church mouse high school librarian once flipped her ****. we were on a school trip and she was chaperon and the restaurant she booked specifically because it had no smoking had one of the patriots light up. she snapped and even cussed...we were all like...wtf? it was great.

I've never heard Fowler be anything but complimentary toward MSU and Starkville

In fact, after Gameday went off the air, Carskadon tweeted that Fowler turned around and told the crowd "You guys don't take a backseat to anybody." He didn't have to do that. Fowler and Herbie have been coming to Starkville since the late 90s when they both did Thursday night games and have seemed to enjoy it, especially the Little Dooie.

Paps was a good pick. Accentuates the difference between State and OleMiss.
That is, Ole Miss is an elitist school with ditzy girls jumping off bars. State has tough in your face athletes who excel at the pro level.
If State tried to get an entertainment celebrity, it would have come across as State trying to outdo Ole Miss. The only exception would have been Will Ferrell.
