Just watched the last 4.9 seconds about 15 times

I just watched the final 4.9 seconds of regulation at least 15 times. Bledsoe does not appear to cross the free throw line before the ball touches the rim (so no lane violation there as some had stated) BUT it is very clear, VERY CLEAR, that Cousins spent the entire final 4.8 seconds in the lane. Watch it yourself if you don't believe me. (If you do watch it again, it will at least prove that you are not a SEC Referee; they don't care as long as Kentucky wins.) I seem to remember that there is some rule about a 3 second violation. The ball should have been turned over to us by the referees with 1.9 seconds on the clock and MSU up by 2 points. Once again the past practice of favoring the "elite" teams by SEC Officiating continues just like it does in Football. The bad thing is that Slive is either too stupid or too incompetent to at least give the refs the heads-up that it actually would benefit the SEC for MSU to win since it would get another SEC team into the NCAA Tournament. I mean, if your going to favor certain teams at the expense of fairness, at least try to be smart about it.

but I would NEVER expect to get a lane violation or "in the lane" call with 4.9 seconds left in a game like this... we didn't make free throws, we threw away an inbounds pass, we didn't get a rebound, we didn't execute in OT..... We played an AWESOME game and they are definitely a better team than us and it hurts like my dog died but a lane violation call is the least of the things..

Bledose was the shooter. Wall was the man who should have had the lane violation called on him.

No referee is going to call 3 seconds on a scrum like that, ever. Ever.

You're right; Wall did come past the 3 point line way before the ball hit the rim so that lane violation was a missed call, too.

You say that no referee is going to call 3 seconds on a scrum like that. I wonder if it would have been "not called" if the shoe was on the other foot with MSU needing a no-call like Kentucky got.

I'm pretty sure the three second count restarts after a shot. They don't make offensive players step out of the lane before going after the offensive rebound.

i subscribe to the referee's twitter. after the game he sent out a tweet in response to another tweet that accused him of ignoring the lane violation. his tweet said that he's of the new school of referees that believes the 3 second call is more like 5 seconds in reality. kind of like different umpires' strike zones. he tweeted that it is a very subjective rule

that once a shot goes into the air, the 3-second count is nullified. You cannot prevent someone from waiting on a rebound after a shot is in the air, so the 3-second count ends as the shot is put up.

So the question on that call really is, was the shot off in the air after 3 full seconds... and I don't think it was.

and notice how that 4.9sec clock started 0.3sec after the first UK guy touched the ball. If that clock started on time, we're dancin' and have back-to-back SEC Tourney Championships.

I watched the replay frame by frame quite a bit myself. Patterson was the first player to touch the ball with 4.9 seconds left. If you watch the shot clock, the countdown started immediately and was clicked from 4.6 to 4.5 when the ball hits the ground. It was at 4.3 by the time Wall got to it.

ABC's little digital clock at the bottom of the screen started late, and was running almost 0.2 seconds behind the game clock.

The ball clearly left Cousins' hand before the clock expired.

but 3 seconds is very subjective. It's not like the 5 second count or 10 second violation where the referee had a count going.

You can't keep an official count on every guy in the lane because people are going in and out of it all the time. It's more of a feel call based on whether you sense a guy is camping out too long without making an attempt to leave the lane.

That makes me feel a little better because I had been brooding on this all night. I thought the clock displayed on TV was tied into the official time. Guess my assumption was wrong.

Anyhow, I can still ***** about the lane violation. That is not a judgement call. It's a violation or it's not. The whistle should have been blown and it should have been our ball with 4.9 to go.

I guess I'll just pretend that Benock misses the front end of a one and one with 3.5 left and Wall nails a desperation 3 to win it. I'm sure the SEC/NCAA could have snuck in a remote control ball to make sure the shot went in for UK...

on the broadcast. The clock was suppose to start from the time the free throw hit the rim and it became a live ball. But it was seemingly nearly a full second after that before the clock started which left enough time for the putback to count. My DVR cut off right at 2:00 so I didn't get the very end of regulation recorded but if somebody would go back and watch it I would be interested if that is indeed the case.

With all the advancements in broadcasting games, you would think they would come up with a way to connect the graphic clock to the actual game clock in all sports. Could alleviate quite a bit of confusion by the folks watching at home.

If you can watch another replay of the end of regulation, you can barely see the shot clock at the top of the screen when Patterson first touches the ball. The camera moves down and back up, and you can see the clock has started running right after the touch. You can't really see the clock again until Wall shoots, but then you can see that the game clock is ahead of the ABC clock.

and I guess I should have read the entire thread before posting. The most irritating thing is though that the only reason Cousins had a chance to put the ball back up was because Wall shot an air ball. If he had been anywhere in the vicinity and hit the rim the clock would have expired.

I thought we won and declined a bid due to the kindness of our hearts for poor little ole Utah State.
