Hospitals in WV are not hiring because they dont have the money. Unlike in other states, WV has an extremely high % of Medicaid & Medicare patients. The govnt does not pay very much for services rendered for these patients. WV is the HIghest in the country for % of Medicaid & Medicare per capita... This is why hospitals cant hire, and actually laid off service providers a couple years ago. Post 2012, you saw a massive shift in the economic landscape in WV, when all the coal mines shut down. People who worked for a living and did not rely on the govnt, relocated elsewhere for work. This had a dramatic effect on Hospital revenues.. When hospitals are laying off employees, that is a serious indicator of a very unhealthy economy. If we want to solve that problem, WV needs to serious change of Tax, Regulation, & Business policies in order to compete on a national level. I was a strong supporter of Justice's plan to eliminate the income tax, that would be a good starting point.. I mean, if you owned a business, why would you start it or bring it to WV? What does WV offer to help your business grow, succeed, increase profitability, or hire easily?? The truth is WV is not competitive in many of the primary factors business owners weigh when deciding where to locate. In order to offset, drastic change is needed to attract them and mitigate our negatives. Any rate, hospitals laying off was a sad day for WV, pathetic really....
