Crazy thing is.....my Great Grandpa was an immigrant who came to Ellis Island to start a better life. My ethnicity is often made fun of and stereotyped I’m movies, yet I’ve never found it offensive. Maybe I have just come to expect it?
Maybe I’m not sensitive enough? Maybe I don’t take myself so serious?

Also, I’m in Canada right now fishing. Granted, yesterday was “Canada Day”, but this is my 3rd straight year visiting at different times. My wife noticed how many flags are flying & how much pride they display in their country. I agree.....it’s almost frowned upon to be “proud to be an American”

How many rebounds per game does this Kaepernick guy average? Can’t find his stats anywhere. Is he a rim protector?

Also, political thread is in the Paddock. OP, you’ll get more “right ons” and “atta boys” than you’ll know what to do with over there.

No it’s not, that’s ridiculous. If this thread had 500 posts less than 5 would have that attitude. The 4th is coming up and American flags are everywhere. Let’s not just start saying stupid **** because of some obscure shoe story

The "Thank a soldier" motto has became "Thank a liberal".

Serious question: what is everyone's fascination / disgust with Kaepernick? He is using his right to protest. I've never understood why people care so much and hate him when he has every right to do what other African American citizens have done in the past. Stand up for what they believe in. You don't have to believe the same.

Yes he has every right to protest but he is using that to tell others what we cannot have simply because he doesn’t like it. Nike deserves a kick in the *** for this.

What does this have to do with whether or not Nike should use the original 13 colonies version of the flag (the Betsy Ross flag) on shoes that they will sell in the free market? Were Canadians flying their flag from... checks notes... the late 1700s? Or were they wearing those on their shoes? What part of the linked story suggests that it's at all "frowned upon to be 'proud to be an Amercan?'"

I think the reason he didn’t feel comfortable with the flag is that it was the thirteen colonies flag, and he felt like that was representative of the slavery period. They’re still going to use the modern version of the flag.

It's not surprising that someone who actually read the article has this reasonable take on what is really a non-issue. 10/10.

Lol, how is he telling you what you can and cannot have?

He told Nike, who he represents, that many people off color feel a degree of offense with that particular version of the flag because it was used to represent the US during times of slavery. I'm not sure how you have ignorantly equated that to him telling you what you can and can't have. You know, like black people and freedom back in the day.

Who should decide? Because it's not you or me making decisions on what shoes Nike, a participant in the free market, sells to the consuming public, and you seemed okay with someone within Nike deciding what to sell (but not someone paid a lot of money by Nike, apparently?). And this is no way changes whether or not any other company will offer a similarly designed shoe. So unless you had a really specific desire for a Nike brand Betsy Ross flag style shoe, what's the beef here?

I am calling bs. No way these mega corporations would ever actually side with being pro America, this is a stunt to keep Colin relevant. ... or it could be for 4th

Call whatever you want, but Nike is a large, publicly traded company with fiduciary duties to its shareholders. The idea that they're animated by being anti-American is as illogical as it gets. And if this is somehow (please, explain) a "stunt to keep Colin relevant," then it's going to have to pay off in some tangible way, considering that the article makes clear that these shoes are being recalled (i.e. there are sunk costs for manufacturing and distribution). Again, illogical, but whatever makes you feel victimized, I guess.

I just don't understand why the Betsy Ross flag is offensive to anyone. I get that it's from a time when there was slavery, but does that mean that we can't have anything pre-1865 in this country? It's a little ridiculous.

I do see how the Confederate "Dixie" flag could be offensive, of course, but this whole thing seems like a huge leap and is just an example of trying to find something to get bent out of shape over.

LOL - how'd that work out for the bakery that refused to make a gay wedding cake?

That's the problem...… you must agree with all leftists ideas or else have your life/business ruined and be labeled racist/bigot/Nazi/etc...

I mean, they tried to ruin an entire state for not allowing men to **** in a women's bathroom.

To think that we're living in a time where a multi billion dollar corporation like Nike can be intimidated by a sour, little, hatemonger like Colin Kaepernick. But then this shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone. I mean if someone would have told you 30 years ago that one day that a bartender would be the face of a major political party in our country we would have laughed at such a ridiculous statement, but here we are. It's like we're living in the Twilight Zone.
