This, this, this!

No matter how mad some of you get or how much you post on here you are not going to change UK basketball....period. How you react to the basketball team may/will affect your well being though. Ask me how I know. It's much better now that I choose to not get upset.
If you’re expecting titles and final fours in this new era, Kentucky basketball just might not be for you.

i literally told someone yesterday that caleb wilson would be the best player on our team and someone said im a unc fan 😭
I read these threads & I'm amazed at how many times people attack other people's fandom over the least little thing. I realize that this board does get trolls at times but some of these threads get crazy with attacks. It sucked not getting Caleb Wilson, he would be one of the best players on this team & I hate North Carolina more than any other team, maybe even more than Louisville & Tennessee lol.

Just watched on replay and it looked like he was just running down the court and started limping. What I want to know is why the refs didn’t stop play? There was no fast break and the offense had pulled up, so why didn’t they stop the play?

They are 18-40 all time to UK. They won their 18th in history and suddenly it’s all over. I love seeing fanbases suck for decades and have a decent game and suddenly they’re going to take over the world.

“Kentucky is the Notre dame of college basketball” - 2009

Followed by Final four, title, final four, final four, championship game….lol.

Those fanbases never learn.

I saw an Auburn post a while back saying now that Saban is gone Alabama will never win another. They so bad want the best to fall. They’ll dream it if they have to.
At this point a possessed doll is a valid option for Li’l Bro and I wouldn’t put it past them

Ñoàh has to save the season with scoring ñot defense. He mans up or hit the road next year
I sure am not ready to tell a true Sophomore to man up or hit the road. Players like Noah can really turn into a handful for other teams when they become a hardened senior. Remember Anthony Epps. Remember Darius Miller, etc... Those players would contribute as sophomores, but when they were seniors, they sure filled vital rolls on National Title teams. I want to see Noah as a 4-year player at UK. He may or may not ever be an every game starter. But in his 4th year he will be rock solid in any roll he needs to fill.

lol. BTW this poster was talking about how UK fans would and should issue death threats to Pope and harass his family. He’s also proof that we’re still Kentucky. Imagine being a rival fan coming on here to pretend to be a UK fan 😂 what a giant loser

Typical. Season ending injuries to 3 of our top7 and its not even February.

The crazy thing about this situation is that Pope is kind of gonna get a pass this year now, like it or not. Because hate to say it, but no team is gonna go very far with these types of injuries. If Scheyer lost the Boozer twins and the 7th guy off the bench, theyre gonna lose games, they're gonna dance in and out of the top25 and probably lose 2nd or 3rd round.

Its gonna be pretty tough to judge this season now, unless we really tank. But Pope is gonna have his first two seasons marred by injury and we will never know how good we could have been with guys like Jrob, Butler, Kriisa, Lowe, JQ and Kam healthy in march.

The SEC was stacked last season but someone has to be first and there’s absolutely no reason that isn’t UK, the blue blood of the conference. Duke had no trouble locking down the ACC and Kansas had no trouble locking down the BIG12 when they were stacked. Hasn’t Duke won 4 or 5 of the last 10 ACC titles?

These are just excuses especially given our booster contributions. Nobody is going to pay like UK for basketball and they aren’t. Oats is doing better than us without those resources.

Kentucky should not be a middle of the pack SEC program, we should be no worse than 3rd in most years, we should be 1st much of those years. If we aren’t on those marks we need a new coach. It’s that simple. This corresponds with our lack of final fours, we simply aren’t hiring correctly. That’s all it is, nothing to do with the conference. Held Calipari too long, average follow up hire to this point.

The SEC isn’t actually that great, definitely not to the point where we can’t do this.

I’m a UK die hard, I’m not going to negotiate UK basketball. That’s something that should be non-negotiable. Every single booster and fan at this point should be calling for a change and hoping for the best. When Mark proves he’s UK quality that can change. He’s getting next year, but it’s elite 8/ final four, win the SEC (or very close) or bust for me. Anything else and we’re lowering standards. I’m rooting for him to figure it out.

I have a question for you using your standard of no less than 3rd in conference. Why do injuries get dismissed so easily? Take 2024-2025 season, the Cats finished 3 games out of 3rd place, 4 out of 2nd, and 5 games out of 1st.

Butler & Jaxson Robinson were both out for the regular season losses to @Bama (13pt loss), @Texas (4pt loss). Butler was also out in the losses @ole Miss and home against Arkansas.

Do you really think Bama finishes 3rd with Mark Sears missing as much as Bulter AND Philon missing as much as Jaxson Robinson?
How about Florida? You think they don't drop more games if Clayton missed as much as Butler and Elijah Martin missing the games Jax missed...and playing injured when they did play?

I have no problem stating UK has been and should be the standard in SEC basketball, and I agree recruiting has been rough, and this current roster wasn't as well-assembled as last year. However, it's also ingenuine to use the conference standing last year and ignore data like the significant amount of injuries Pope has been dealt the last 2 seasons... I'm not even counting JQ as he was a risk.

But when hammering Pope for the lack of success, these MUST be taken into consideration...I mean, how do you not?

I take it into consideration. And I’m not saying all is going to be hair. Mark is stepping into a tough spot, and he’s had bad luck. I think he’s also contributed to that luck, recruiting players with injuries and paying millions for them, not recruiting or maintaining enough ball handlers etc. while he’s had bac luck, he’s also had issues within his control.

End of the day? It’s all an issue he has to solve and he has to solve it within an acceptable time frame. If you’re just unlucky 3 straight years, I’d say that’s not all unlucky. Some of it is you. I think many coaches have been derailed off of things that aren’t all their fault. They still lose their job.

Kentucky is a blue blood and the program of all time. It the NIL era and we pay. He doesn’t need 4 years, that’s not the standard anymore. May is coming in immediately and killing it.

We are in a major drought and I don’t want to risk it getting worse. Mark as hired to come in and win immediately. Is it all fair? Probably not but it’s what he signed up for.

End of the year I would assess the entire situation and where this is going. The issue is he can’t recruit. Whatever the reason he’s not recruiting well, he’s lost key transfers and recruits. He has no players currently coming in. If we’re an early exit this year and I look and see he can’t find a way to recruit either? I’d cut it and let’s get the right guy early. Just because we want it to work badly and love the guy doesn’t mean we can keep him.

If Mark doesn’t hit an elite 8 next year and win / come close to winning this conference he has to go.

Very simply…it’s a choice by many.

They aren’t standing firm on a methodology — they are standing firm on a message and will shape-shift the methodology to fit it. Many posters never wanted Pope and have decided that all roads lead to “Pope bad.” If some of these same posters watched their man-crush coaches struggle with sub-par records following from multiple severe injuries, they would be very quick to cite context. In the same way, if someone where to say Rick Pitino should have been fired for the 1990 season, they’d correctly come to his defense, but when anyone cites injuries with Pope it is considered excuse making. Don’t believe me? Await the replies from some of these people who will almost always point to pre-hire candidacy issues, as though the man hasn’t already been hired. “He should have never been hired, so I’m going to be as negative as I can be.”
